GMC Hummer EV Pickup sales during the second quarter of 2023 kept the electric supertruck behind its primary competitor in the off-road-focused electric pickup truck space, the Rivian R1T, which accounted for 4,361 deliveries to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s measly 47.

By comparison, GM’s other all-electric model using Ultium batteries – the Cadillac Lyriq – moved 1,348 units during the same timeframe. By comparison, the Hummer EV Pickup posted 272 deliveries in the year-ago quarter, while moving 854 units during all of 2022.
The GM Authority Take
GMC Hummer EV Pickup sales remained very low during the second quarter of 2023 as a result of minuscule production volumes. However, GM is working on ramping that up, which it did in May, building 2,590 total units of both the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV, followed by 2,750 combined units in June. During the first six months of the 2023 calendar year, GM built a combined 8,619 of the Hummer EV models. By comparison, over 5,000 units of the Hummer EV Pickup were produced in 2022.
Earlier this year GM said it plans to strongly increase GMC Hummer EV production volume during the second half of the 2023 calendar year. That would certainly help the automaker make a dent in fulfilling 90,000 reservations of both models. The automaker stopped taking reservations for both battery electric Hummer models around the 90,000 mark.
Still, GM EV production targets are challenged by battery supply. The automaker aims to be the electric vehicle sales leader in North American by mid-decade, announcing early last year that it expects to reach a capacity of one million EV units in North America by the end of 2025. That goal may be hampered by limited supplies of batteries and a slow production ramp-up at its new U.S. battery plants. It may be hampered even further by the ongoing GM-UAW labor negotiations.
At the end of the day, production volume is currently the biggest constraint to growing sales of the Hummer EV Pickup and Hummer EV SUV. In fact, GM expects the SUV variant to account for roughly 60 percent of total Hummer EV sales, and the Pickup variant to make up the remaining 40 percent.
About GMC Hummer EV Pickup
Production of the 2024 GMC Hummer EV Pickup began in June with the nameplate introducing a handful of important updates and changes over the preceding 2023 model. That includes the launch of two entry-level trim levels, specifically the 2 and 2X. They will join the range-topping Edition 1 and 3X trims to round out the all-electric Hummer off-road pickup truck lineup for the 2024 model year.
Another important update for the 2024 Hummer EV Pickup is the introduction of the new Omega Edition, a limited-run variant that includes a unique matte paint finish, unique wheels, and a few other unique accents.
Both Hummer EV variants ride on the GM BT1 platform, powered by Ultium Batteries and Ultium Drive motors. A different variant of the same architecture underpins the upcoming Chevy Silverado EV and GMC Sierra EV.

Yet to see a Hummer in the wild. See tons of Rivians.
They are out there for sure, I stay in Columbus, GA. which is 100 miles South of Atlanta, I’ve seen 2 of these Hummer Trucks charging behind our Local Dealership, they have sold a total of 4 all together thus far.
I am just up the road in Newnan/Peachtree City area. See just about everything right when it comes out. If not on the road then on the lot of Hendricks owned dealership that flips high end stuff. Zero Hummers.
The flop and con job of the century.
Flop?
LOL
No one wants them, regardless of the government incentives. Wake up before it’s too late mary.
I think the 90k people on the reservation list would disagree. Also, most people buying these don’t get any incentives.
Rivian R1T, which accounted for 4,361 deliveries to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s measly 47. How embarrassing! I can’t wait to get all the thumbs down and read the excuses.
gm’s decision-making over the last 10 years has been a real head scratcher.
It’s almost as if others (fill in the blank) are making decisions for them…
I could not agree more!
Don’t forget, total combined sales between the Hummer SUT and SUV this past May and June ranged between 2,590 to 2,750, not bad for vehicles pricing between $120k and up, though 90,000 Reservations were placed in for the new Hummer, the inflation is making some of these people think twice as to how they are spending their money; add in the Car Repossessions which is catapulting at an alarming rate, that’s one of the realities facing gm, Stellantis, Ford and Toyota right now, not much of anything is selling right now.
Startling low numbers, wait till the impact of the strikes kicks in.
Didn’t know sales were that bad. Will GM discontinue the Hummer for the 2nd time?
It is one of the halo vehicles of Mary’s insane quest to only build EV (and consequently destroy the corporation). To drop it would give her a black eye. The fact it sells at near ZERO means nothing to her.
It should really say deliveries not sales.
Sawr a used one today out behind my local Buick-GMC store. What a brick. Literally.
You’d think GM spending $$$ on those Lebron ads would help. Guess not?
Demand is strong for these things.
Thanks GM for building an affordable sensible vehicle! NOT
Before we question the Hummer numbers we need to understand how many Silverado EVs were made since they are made in the same factory.
THEY ARE PRODUCING SO FEW IT WILL TAKE FOREVER TO GET THE 90k RESERVATIONS AND THE PRICE IS ESCALATING QUARTERLY. IF YOU HAVE A RESERVATION YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO AFFORD THE TRUCK AND THE OLD PEOPLE WHO COULD AFFORD IT WILL BE TOO OLD TO DRIVE IT !!! POOR PLANNING
Hopefully builds will continue to increase in number. I hold a reservation to be filled within the next four months. The Hummer is not for everyone but it’s a perfect 2nd vehicle for me.
The question is, will Mary Buick Envision Made in China-Barra get the message, that very few people care for the ultra-expensive 10,000 lbs. road destroyer?
These are play toys for the wealthy.
It is time for GM to be transparent. Why have they produced so many but delivered so few?
These numbers are so pitiful that the Tesla Cybertruck will immediately leave all of them in the dust even before it ramps up to full production.
Time to think about re-engineering this thing to accept gas, diesel, or Hybrid powertrains.
That would be ridiculous and pointless. Gas and diesel will be gone entirely in just a few years.
Dream on….
9000+ lb disaster.
Not sure where the numbers came from. Rivian doesn’t announce how many of each vehicle they produce, but did list total of 13,992 produced and 12,240 delivered in Q2.
As if the Hummer were not in enough trouble, the Ultium batteries are already out of date technology and GM is a lumbering dinosaur unable to pivot to something newer. All things considered, I predict GM will go bankrupt again and this time will come back as a niche market specialty builder, or maybe a division of some other car company.
Just like they gave Chryco to Fiat, they might give GM to Ford since many of you think GM is such a POS. 👍
I agree they will go bankrupt again, and if they do come back in a niche market it will be building gas and diesel vehicles. There will be alternative powered vehicles but gas and diesel will be around for at least the next 50 years.
Well, when dealers are marking up an already very expensive vehicle who wants to buy it? There’s a Hummer truck parked at a nearby dealership, with a 30k markup. It’s been sitting for months. They just got the Hummer SUV… 20k markup. They couldn’t sell the first one, and now the second one is at a markup. If I just want an EV truck, I’m better off buying the Lightning 10 minutes away that has a $7,500 Ford discount on top of another $7,500 tax incentive. Not sure what GM marketing is thinking right now. If they priced it on par with a Sierra 1500 Denali, I’d buy one today.
Dealer markups are temporary. It no one buys them at their markup prices. They’ll just lower the price.
Well in this case sales has nothing to do with demand or pricing.
It’s not an issue of demand.
