Corvette C8 Trampled By Silverado, Passengers Walk Away

The Chevy Corvette C8 offers mid-engine thrills and exciting V8 performance, but underneath all that go-fast fun, the new Vette is also surprisingly safe. Evidence of that safety was made readily apparent after a recent accident in Thornton, Colorado left a Chevy Silverado parked directly on top of an unfortunate C8 Corvette, but luckily, no one inside the Corvette was hurt, despite the full weight of the pickup resting on top of sports car.

Images of the aftermath of the accident were published to social media by the Thornton Fire Department.

A Chevy Silverado ran over a C8 Corvette, but luckily no one was hurt.

According to the social post, the accident occurred near the intersection of 168th and Colorado Boulevard earlier this week. Although the manner in which the accident occurred was not stated, it certainly looks as though a head-on collision caused the high-riding Chevy Silverado to climb over the top of the low-slung C8 Corvette, wedging the orange sports car underneath the Silverado and resting the pickup’s weight directly on the A-pillars and over the top of roof structure.

According to the fire department, there were no injuries and no one was transported to the hospital, which is somewhat remarkable given the dramatic aftermath pictured in these photos. That said, the Corvette C8 has some very strong A-pillars – in fact, the pillars for both the Corvette C8 Coupe and Corvette C8 Convertible can hold 2.25 times the weight of the car, per an exclusive published by GM Authority way back in 2019.

In an interview, Corvette Chief Engineer Tadge Juechter explained why the Corvette C8 does not need additional rollover protection (such as with a deployable bar):

“We designed the windshield pillars to hold 2.25 times the weight of the entire car,” Juechter told GM Authority. “So you can turn the car upside down, and you can put another car on top of that, and still have room to spare. So it’s essentially a super strong roll bar.”

Apparently, the pillars can hold a Chevy Silverado, as well.

  1. Good thing it wasn’t a Hummer EV that drove on top of that C8 then…

    1. If you look at the images the truck is a very stock 1500 Silverado. Literally any truck and even some cars could end up on top of a C8 in a head on due to it’s low slung wedge shape. To your other point many guys like to personalize their trucks and make them their own. Really no different then what many are doing with C8’s and a vast array of other cars.

    2. The biggest thing is they want their trucks to look more traditional. Aka no rake and have tires that dont look like they came off a prius. Nothing wrong with a leveling kit and one tire size bigger
