Chevy Trax Brand’s Fastest Turning Model Again In August 2023

Over the course of May 2023, June 2023, and July 2023, the Chevy Trax was the fastest turning Bow Tie vehicle. Now, the subcompact crossover is once again Chevy’s most popular model.

GM Authority has learned that the Chevy Trax is once again the fastest turning Chevy vehicle for August 2023, and that the current sales volume has far exceeded General Motors’ expectations up to this point. Notably, the Trax is also currently running at a six days supply, meaning that there is enough inventory at U.S. dealerships to only last six days at the present sales pace.

Side profile of 2024 Chevy Trax Activ.

Over the course of Q2 2023, the Chevy Trax saw a 114 percent jump to 20,921 units, making it fifth-most popular vehicle in its segment. In fact, of the top five subcompact crossovers, only the Chevy Trailblazer saw a similar rise in sales, with a jump of 112 percent to 33,857 units.

This explosive growth is in stark contrast to Trax sales figures from Q1 2023, where the subcompact crossover featured dried-up inventory levels in anticipation of the next-gen model. Looking forward, it’s likely that this positive trajectory will continue as more shipments of the second-gen Chevy Trax regularly arrive on U.S. shores.

As a reminder, the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax is powered by the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed to the front wheels exclusively via the GM six-speed automatic transmission.

Under the body panels, the 2024 Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set. Production officially kicked off in February 2023 at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea, while pricing for the entry-level 1LS trim starts at $21,495, including the destination freight charge. The online configurator is currently live.

My sister (who’s 4’10”, was premature) is still driving her ’07 Malibu Maxx LTZ and recently saw an ad (not sure where but she is a Twitterholic) for the new Trax and immediately decided that it’s to be her next car. The reason why she’s still got the Maxx is visibility issues; many vehicles are visibility-challenged due to small windows. Hated to tell her that this one won’t work for her. So, we’re back to Corolla hatch, Impreza hatch and Kicks. But whatever advertising is going on, it’s working and I’m sure that the current discounts of up to $3K will soon vanish.
I’m also worried about reliability. The Encore GX is off to a poor start. Seems GM can’t get fuel system issues right with the small turbo engines and hasn’t since the Cruze was introed way back in ’11.

I own a 2017 Encore with the 1.4 turbo. So far it has been a very good car. Haven’t had any problems but it only has 40K miles on it. The new Trax is very nice looking, but I just can’t wrap my arms around a 1.2T 3 cylinder engine. It’s hard to imagine an engine of that size lasting 175K miles without major problems.

We have a trailblazer with the 3 cylinder now for 3 plus years and absolutely no issues!!
Its been one of the most trouble free cars ever in the family !!

Do you have 175K miles on it? If so, great. If not, get back when you do.

there is 60 k and its as tight and well put together today as when it rolled off the assembly line .
The little 3 purs right along and has plenty of power with the 9 speed.
We also have a 2019 Equinox 1.5l AWD Premier.
I remember when these were introduced in 2018 the cry was that the 1.5l was no good and would self-distruct before 100k , Well is got 225k now with just regular maintenance , oil changes etc. New plugs at 150k. The thing works great and the engine and drivetrain is as quiet today as it was when its was new.
I have had over 40 new GM cars and trucks in my lifetime , from small 4 cylinders, to SS V8 Novas , Impalas , Malibus , S-10 Trucks and Colorados, etc .
From my experience the cars that GM builds today are substantially better then those cars of the glory years and i would have no concerns taking the new power trains to 200-300,000 and beyond

Not sure why you think she won’t have good visibility in the 2024 Trax. I’m 5′ tall on a good day and purchased a well equipped 2024 Trax LS in May, was coming from a 2006 Cobalt, and I don’t have any visibility issues. So far, I’m really enjoying the Trax, too. The engine/transmission have some differences to get used to compared to my 4 cylinder engine/4 speed transmission in the Cobalt, but it’s a great ride that shouldn’t be overlooked especially for the price. No matter what the vehicle, each person should decide what works best for themselves. Never hurts to go for a test drive!

I like the look but would prefer awd. Maybe it will be an option next year?

No, it won’t have AWD next year. If you want AWD, you buy the very similar Trailblazer for a few thousand more. The point of the Trax is to be GM’s entry level subcompact SUV, not all things to all potential customers.

I had a 2017 Chevy Trax get gave me more problems than it was worth! The check. Engine light would come on at least once a year, sometimes twice a year. That would cost me anywhere between 600 to $800 each time. I think the engine was too small for a vehicle. Worse purchase i ever made! Just this June it caught on fire in burnt slap up.
