Chevy Camaro ZL1 Destroyed In Houston Crash: Video

The Chevy Camaro ZL1 is one helluva performance car, capable of laying down some seriously quick lap times thanks to its supercharged V8 and a long list of track-ready equipment and features. Unfortunately, some owners choose to test the extremely high limits of the Camaro ZL1 out on the street, which can lead to some wild crashes. And it looks like that’s exactly what happened in the following viral video.

Clip from a viral video showing a Chevy Camaro ZL1 crashed in Houston.

Recently making the rounds on social media, this viral video was apparently captured in Houston, Texas, around the intersection of Freeway 45 and West Road. The video includes two angles, one up close to the scene of the accident, and another rolling by on an adjacent road. The actual collision is not included in the video – rather, all we see is the aftermath.

And what aftermath it is. The video shows the Chevy Camaro ZL1 utterly destroyed, with the various panels smashed in and hanging off the body, the hood ripped off, and the trunk twisted into a mess of metal and rubber. Perhaps most dramatic is the engine and transmission, which were ejected from the car and are seen on the ground next to the mangled sports car.

It was obviously a major impact if it resulted in this sort of carnage. It’s unclear exactly what happened, but it certainly looks as though excessive speed played a factor. Indeed, the Chevy Camaro ZL1 is more than capable of creating some truly harrowing velocity, with the sports car’s supercharged 6.2L V8 LT4 gasoline engine rated at 650 horsepower at 6,400 rpm and 650 pound-feet of torque at 3,600 rpm. Properly unleashed, it’s enough to send the two-door from 0 to 60 mph in roughly 3.5 seconds, with top speed rated at just under 200 mph.

Sounds like a riot on the track, but on the street, it can result in some pretty nasty results, as this video proves:

  3. I love high-horsepower cars. I own one, but I think anything considered a performance car with over 400HP should require a safe driving course. Insurance companies should demand this and make people sign a waiver that if you are in an accident and found at fault for driving like a moron, insurance benefits will be revoked or the rates will be so high that these people will only be able to afford public or human-powered transportation.

Disclaimer: I do have fun with my car but in a very responsible way. Most of the time I take it to the track if I want to get extra silly with it. But you will never catch me mashing the gas pedal when 1) the steering wheel isn’t pointed straight, 2) people are in the vicinity, 3) the roads are anything but dry 4) other vehicles are close by and 5) other obstacles are nearby such as curbs, signs, lamps, hydrants, etc…

  5. Hey John, I’ve decided to swap my LT4 and transmission. Do you need any help? Sure, just meet me on the corner of Freeway 45 and West Road and bring 6 buddies and some straps. I’ll meet you guys at the BBQ once I post bail.

  6. That’s not an accident. That’s idiocy and should be severely punished if the driver survived.

  7. Dumbass moves like that are what give muscle cars a bad name and drive up insurance rates.

  8. People who drive like that in an urban setting should have a large liability insurance policy or risk losing your house and life savings. Furthermore, ask your insurance agent because if you are proven to be grossly negligent and at fault, your insurance policy may not have to pay anything so you could be on your own and personally liable for all expenses and lawsuits. Read the fine print, it’s there for a reason. Good luck.

  9. When muscle car started in the 60’s, HP was no way near today’s engines. More HP than brains was the call. Early 70’s it got so bad that insurance companies factored in the HP for premiums. It also started the six month auto policies so you can be dropped in a few months instead of a year.
