Six out of the original ten GM vehicles made it to the second round of the 30th annual North American Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle of the Year Awards, or NACTOY, with the Chevy Blazer EV being one of two nameplates from The General achieving “Best of 2024” semifinalist status in the Utility Vehicle category.
The Chevy Blazer EV is one of 10 semifinalists for 2024 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year, and one of 25 vehicles overall that reached the second round of voting out of an original lineup of 52 models.
The Chevy Blazer EV is currently competing against the likes of the Dodge Hornet, Genesis Electrified GV70, Honda Pilot, Hyundai Kona, Kia EV9, Mazda CX-90, Toyota Grand Highlander, Volvo EX30, and one other GM model – the Chevy Equinox EV.
The NACTOY choice of semifinalist models, including the Chevy Blazer EV, from the original 52 candidates was carried out by a jury of 50 automotive journalists from the USA and Canada. The Awards organization uses this method to reduce bias in the results by assembling a wide variety of viewpoints to reach a final conclusion.
The relatively neutral results coming from having 50 different perspectives contributing to the vote – “we all evaluate vehicles in a different way” according to NACTOY president Jeff Gilbert – is intended to make the recognition of vehicles through the awards more useful to everyone from consumers to automakers looking to improve. The “Best of 2024” models were picked at an event held at the Huntington Place convention center.
The Chevy Blazer EV and the other 24 semifinalists will now undergo “further evaluation,” Gilbert says, in order to choose nine finalists, three in each of the categories of Car, Truck, and Utility Vehicle. Jurors will get the chance to drive all the models at a comparison drive hosted in Michigan by NACTOY next month.
The nine finalist models will be announced on November 16th at the Los Angeles Auto Show. Finally, the 2024 North American Car of the Year, North American Truck of the Year, and North American Utility Vehicle of the Year will be revealed at a separate Awards event on January 4th, 2024. As a reminder, the Chevy Blazer EV is currently offered in two trim levels – 2LT and RS. Both are equipped with an 85 kWh GM Ultium battery pack powering two GM Ultium Drive motors providing all-wheel propulsion. Under the body panels, all 2024 Chevy Blazer EV trims ride on the GM BEV3 platform.
