The GM Authority Take

While Cadillac XT6 sales during Q2 2023 are not really anything to write home about, the model did solidly outsell its cross-town rival, the Lincoln Aviator. However, while the Aviator will receive a midcycle update for the 2024 model year, we know of no such plans for the XT6.

We posit that two factors – product competitiveness and sub-par availability – are to blame for the XT6 finishing last quarter in the red. The product itself is in need of a thorough update in order to remain competitive in this fierce segment, and the XT6 has essentially remained the same since its launch for the 2020 model year.

On the availability front, Cadillac’s new-vehicle inventory was under 50 days supply in June, potentially adversely affecting XT6 sales. A 60-day supply is considered optimal in the U.S. auto industry by many automotive sales organizations such as the National Automotive Dealers Association (NADA). For reference, a 60-day inventory level means that dealerships have enough inventory on hand to sustain current sales volume for roughly the next 60 days.

About Cadillac XT6

The 2023 Cadillac XT6 ushers in only a few small updates and changes over the 2022 Cadillac XT6, receiving limited expansion of driving coverage for the GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance feature.

The 2024 Cadillac XT6 arrives as the fourth model year of the first generation of Cadillac’s largest crossover. It receives few small changes and updates, the most significant being a trio of accent packages: Red Accent Package, Blue Accent Package, and Bronze Accent Package.

2024 Cadillac Lyriq Sport Special Launch Edition for the Middle East

With no announced plans for an XT6 refresh, Cadillac is focusing heavily on electric vehicles. The luxury marque is already all in with its Cadillac Lyriq all-electric crossover and is testing a three-row electric Cadillac crossover that, as we’ve noted before, will slot above the Lyriq with regard to the Cadillac’s EV crossover lineup, with overall dimensions similar to those of the current ICE-powered XT6. Cadillac will also soon debut the Cadillac Optiq, a two-row electric crossover to slow under the Lyriq. Bookending that lineup is the recently-revelaed 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ, the first-ever all-electric full-size SUV from the luxury marque.

Stupid stupid stupid! You update the entry level XT4 with a great refresh but you ignore your premium gas powered XT6 crossover. This country is not ready for all EV’s, Cadillac and GM are taking a huge gamble here. They already skipped over hybrids and want to focus in on making Cadillac a pure EV brand then why update the XT4? They contradict themselves here. I love the exterior lines of the XT6 but it really needs a refresh inside and out. The new XT4/Lyrique/Escalade cockpit would like right at home in the XT6 with perhaps a bit more wood than the XT4 with tge addition of Super Cruise. On the exterior, a revised XT4 type nose would help and that new 2.5 liter turbo would be s very welcome addition with a few more ponies to separate it from the new Traverse and Acadia. This GM leadership needs to wake up! Give the XT6 a much needed refresh already!
