Biden Sending Team To Assist In UAW Talks

The Biden administration is dispatching a team to Detroit to assist in the ongoing UAW labor contract negotiations. The move arrives as UAW members conduct targeted strikes at all three of the Big Detroit automakers, including GM, Ford, and Stellantis. UAW called for a strike following the expiration of the previous auto contracts last week.
The White House team includes Acting Labor Secretary Julie Su and White House Senior Adviser Gene Sperling. According to a report from CNBC, the team is expected to arrive in Detroit early this week.
“Both Sperling and Acting Secretary Su are engaging with the parties by phone, as they have for weeks, with the intention of being there early in the week,” an unnamed Biden administration official told NBC. The official added that that the Biden administration was “pleased that the parties are continuing to meet as they had been before the contract expired.”
Secretary Su and adviser Sperling will not serve as mediators or intervene in the ongoing negotiations. Rather, the White House team will be onhand available to support the negotiations in any way the parties feel to be constructive.
President Biden weighed in on the strike last week, saying that although “no one wants a strike,” he “[respects] workers’ right to use their options under the collective bargaining system.” Biden also echoed the UAW in saying that the record profits realized by auto companies over the past decade should equate to record contracts for workers. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has also reportedly engaged in talks with the UAW and Big Three automakers, urging both sides to find a solution.
The UAW has yet to endorse President Biden for re-election, arguing that the Inflation Reduction Act does not provide enough protection for union members in the transition to electric vehicles. Biden, who characterizes himself as “the most pro-union president you’ve ever seen,” faced criticism from union leaders last year after signing a bill blocking a strike by U.S. rail workers.

“We’re from the government, and we’re here to help.” Yikes.
Wow that should make us all feel better ! Maybe he will send the team that negotiated the Afghanistan pull out or Iran deal!
What a joke. They will make it worse. Thats what they do.
Joe is sending his team to make sure his cut is included in the new contract.
10 million for the big guy!
Wondering how much this little “team” will be costing us Taxpayers and how many trips via Government Jet it will take because you know they are going to screw things up and make the negotiations even more complicated and drawn out.
LOL at Biden’s lies that ” I am the most pro-Union President ever” when his and Democrat Governor’s big push to this EV junk will cost at least one-half ( maybe more ) of the current membership of the UAW their jobs. More hypocrisy from the left.
Is the UAW finally awakening to realize Biden and the Dems are not their “friend” ?
He should not be interfering with private businesses. Lock them out!
He’s not in charge. Quit playing the charade. Let the UAW and the big 3 figure this out on their own.
Biden is not in charge of negotiations between the UAW and the manufacturers. He has sent a team to keep them talking, like most on this site would not do.
It is totally inappropriate for the president to be involved with – or even comment on – an ongoing labor negotiation. Maybe…. his team is going to promise federal tax incentives to help things along, and guess who would be paying for that.
ACZ – My point is he is not in charge of anything period. When he has to read cue cards and shakes hands with invisible people on stage he is obviously not in charge. He has said numerous times that he has to stop answering questions or he is going to get in trouble. Get in trouble by whom? He is not sending a team, his handlers are sending the team. This regime in inept unlike most on this site.
They should send VP Kamala so she can get to the root cause of this.
Shell add to the negotiations that they need to build more school buses
No government interference.
Yes…bring up the “R” word..that will scare GM into giving in to every UAW demand…it works thru out AMERICA!
Hands out JoeBiden. Send the A team Hunter to work behind the scenes. Always has worked in the past!
Ole Joe “the big guy” just making sure his family gets there cut, Hunter working behind the scenes on something he knows nothing about, uaw proly going to give him a seat on their board. Maybe he will paint them some pictures to hang up in the uaw halls of corruption.
The idiot Biden needs to stay out of this.
I said 2 weeks ago that this strike was being rigged to give Brandon a win at something for his re-steal, rather, re-election campaign…. they take anything since his administration has failed at pretty much everything and he has an approval rating lower than head cheese on a snake….
If the UAW wins out, they lose. The manufacturers can’t afford to increase the workers’ pay 46% and cut production by 20%. They just pushed the US automakers to manufacture their products outside the US. How come the foreign automakers that have manufacturing plants here in the US like Honda, BMW, VW, Mercedes all seem to work fine without being union affiliated? The unions had their place once, but between the government corruption and interference (EVs), and the union corruption, this is a death kneel for the US automakers on US soil.
And more than that, their workers are content and well off.
It would be better if the Three would quit giving massive bonuses to their executive level for doing nothing.
Oh sure that’s going to help. 🤣🤣
Biden’s desired contract will increase the cost of each vehicle by 20% or more.
