Late last year, the all-new 2024 Chevy Aveo made its global debut in Mexico as Chevrolet‘s new entry-level vehicle for emerging markets. After its successful launch in the Mexican market, the new Aveo will arrive to Chile as the next-generation Chevy Sail.
General Motors’ subsidiary in Chile plans to market the new Aveo as the Chevy Sail in the South American country, sources familiar with the matter have confirmed to GM Authority. As such, the subcompact vehicle developed and manufactured by the SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) joint venture in China will become the fourth generation of the Sail, continuing the nameplate’s successful legacy in the Chilean market.
Although the automaker has yet to announce it, the arrival of the all-new Aveo in Chile as the next-gen Chevy Sail is a natural step following the recent official discontinuation of the third-generation Sail in that country. The Sail name has a high level of recognition and popularity among Chilean customers since the vehicle’s introduction in late 2011 in the local market, where it has been the best-selling passenger vehicle for several years.
In addition, during Chevy’s small car production start ceremony in China last year, SGMW revealed that the new vehicle was going to be exported first to Mexico, and reach other countries in Central America, South America and Africa afterwards. In fact, that model was finally presented later in the North American country as the all-new Aveo and replaced the outgoing Chevy Sail – which in the Mexican market was sold under the Aveo name.
Interestingly, GM is reversing its strategy with the Bow Tie brand’s new entry-level car for emerging markets developed in China. While the outgoing Chevy Sail was developed by SAIC-GM – the company’s main joint venture in the Asian country – and was later renamed Aveo only for Mexico, the all-new Chevy Aveo is a model designed by SGMW – the second joint venture – and will be renamed Sail in Chile.
The official introduction of the all-new Chevy Sail is expected to occur before the end of the year, when GM’s Chilean subsidiary will finally fill the notable commercial void left by the discontinued model. As with the new entry-level vehicle in Mexico, sources report that the next-gen Sail will be available in the Chilean market as a 2024 model in four-door sedan and five-door hatchback bodies.

You seem to have forgotten to mention why they went back to the Aveo name in certain markets, and that was because the Sail was notorious for having horrible crash test results (zero stars), which they wanted to distance themselves from.
Bring it to the USA. It would be at the price point many people can afford in this economy.
that be too smart of a move for gm
and Canada too !!!!
I really like the hatchback styling!
turbo engine with a good transmission and I would be all over that hatch. Especially if it had Push Button AWD.
Nice sensible styling.
Pretty snappy. Shame we can’t possibly have this is the USA – heaven forbid a small car could be sold here anymore
Yes A Small Car Can Be Sold In The USA If Two Things Happen 1.Gas Prices Go Up and Too Many Car Accidents Happen Because Trucks Are Unsafe And Too Many Trucks On The Road, where Some People Out There Rather Have A Truck than A Car. 2 If You Have A Family Member ( like my late Brother) Who knows Cars Are Going Extinct and Tells You Their Personal like For A Truck That you will settle for, But The Thing is that you have to say that you Might like Owning a Truck But I DON’T LIKE TO Buy A Truck At ALL!
