2024 GMC Canyon Offers New Blind Zone Steering Assist With Trailering Feature

Although it may be just one model year removed from the introduction of the next-gen GMC Canyon, the 2024 GMC Canyon still introduces several updates and changes over the preceding 2023 model year. Now, GM Authority has learned that the 2024 Canyon will be available with the Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering feature.

Intended as an upgrade over Blind Zone Steering Assist (RPO code UKI), the available Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering feature (RPO code UKW) will be standard on the AT4X and AT4X AEV Edition trim levels. Meanwhile, the Blind Zone Steering Assist is part of the Canyon Safety Plus Package (RPO code Y5W), which is available on Elevation and AT4 trims and includes (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):

  • Blind Zone Steering Assist (UKI)
  • Rear Cross Traffic Braking (UFB)
  • Rear Park Assist (UD7)

It’s worth noting that the Canyon Safety Plus Package is included with the Elevation Premium Package (RPO code WPL) and the AT4 Premium Package (RPO code PCU), as well as standard on Denali models.

In regard to the Blind Zone Steering Assist with Trailering feature, it replaces the Blind Zone Steering Assist when the ProGrade Trailering System (RPO code ZL6) is equipped on Elevation, AT4 and Denali units. This trailering upgrade includes the following (relevant RPO code in parenthesis):

  • Trailer hitch and 7-pin connector
  • Trailer brake controller (JL1)
  • Automatic locking rear differential (G80) (Elevation only)
  • Trailering App (U1D)

As a reminder, the current 2023 GMC Canyon is offered exclusively with a single powertrain configuration, the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine that develops 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque. RWD is standard fare on the starting Elevation trim level, while 4WD is available on the Elevation and standard equipment on AT4, AT4X and Denali trims.

Under the body panels, the all-new Canyon rides on an updated variant of the GMT 31XX platform, which it shares with the 2023 Chevy Colorado. Meanwhile, production takes place at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

  4. The more I see of these midsize trucks, the more I like them. Actually might buy one, given they’re about the same size as my previous GMT-400 Silverado, which was adequate for many years.

Of course, like the Ranger, S10, and previous iterations of the Colorado, we shall see if the normal pricing on lower-level Silverados’ is in line with higher-trim midsize trucks. I recall getting quotes on a GMT-800 2500HD 6.0 vortec 4×4 ext cab work (base) truck – the quote was $23k, and the same truck 1500 Z71 with leather and most options was $25k. It was a no-brainer getting the 2500HD that time, just like it might be getting a base Silverado over a loaded Colorado.
