2024 Chevy Trax Runs Red Light, Narrowly Avoids One Car, Hits Another: Video

When you really break it down, it’s kinda wild just how dangerous the roads truly are. Those red lights, the thin little lines separating the lanes, and a few inches of asphalt to mark the curbs aren’t gonna do much to stop several thousand pounds of metal traveling at high speeds. Unfortunately, the driver behind the wheel of this 2024 Chevy Trax demonstrates exactly what we are talking about in the following crash video.
Recently making the rounds on social media, this video is less than a minute long, showing the lead up to the 2024 Chevy Trax crash, the crash itself, and some of the aftermath. The video opens at a busy intersection, with multiple lanes of traffic converging. The video is shot from the dash cam of one of the motorists, who is stopped at a red light and is first in their lane.
As the video gets underway, we see the traffic moving smoothly through the intersection, with some cars continuing straight, and others turning. After a few seconds, the lights turn green, and the dash cam vehicle starts to move forward.
Luckily, the car with the dash cam takes their time in moving out into the intersection. Around the 13-second mark, we see the dash cam vehicle stop abruptly, right before a red 2024 Chevy Trax zooms past the windshield. We see the Trax collide with another vehicle on the right-hand side of the screen, impacting the driver’s side before ricocheting towards an adjacent lane. The brand-new Trax rolls onto a curb and up onto some grass before it finally comes to a stop.
According to the original poster’s comments, the driver behind the wheel of the 2024 Chevy Trax suffered a concussion and a broken wrist, while the passenger in the Trax was taken to the hospital suffering from possible broken ribs. The owner had just registered the vehicle the week prior. The driver in the car that was hit suffered a concussion.
[OC] Elderly driver ran a red light nearly t-boning me. Hit the driver next to me going close to 40mph.

Running a red light should be treated like a DUI. That’s one of the most dangerous moves on the road. Should be automatic wreckless driving and big fine.
We don’t know the circumstances here, Driver may have had a medical condition/emergency going on at the time. The fact that the car ricocheted and then just rolled to the other side of the street indicates a driver not in control of anything at the time. It appeared that automatic emergency braking was the only thing that attempted any kind of avoidance at all.
But yes, people that deliberately run red lights or any traffic control device should be severely penalized.
He can explain it to the judge.
Agree Carl
Wreckless should be in quotes. That’s the idea, getting from point A to point B, without a wreck (🫣)
Beware of those Chevy Traxes! Slow day GMA?
Why is this considered GM news?
Well how bad was the Chevy Trax damaged, I’m concerned about the Trax ,was it totaled was it still drivable it didn’t seam to be going that fast, I want to buy a Chevy Trax but if it can’t take a hit I don’t want one. Does anyone know!
Have to say, the Trax held up well, it was not going slowly in the video. With both vehicles having seat belts, head rests and air bags, a little surprised both drivers had concussions. Then again, see comment in my first sentence…
I generally love to drive, but a part of me thinks self-driving cars (for OTHER people) can’t come soon enough…
That’s why it’s always a good idea to see if the cross traffic shows signs of slowing down for the light before proceeding. I always thought it would be nice to have brake lights on the front of a car to help you determine if the guy sees the light and is stopping.
I expected a teenager driving the Trax. That’s who it’s advertised to. That senior citizen should have been driving a slower car.
Can’t get much slower than a Trax. And yes, the Trax is being marketed to older, value-conscious buyers.
0-60 in 8.5 may not be that fast but it’s not “slow” either. And yes, the Trax is being marketed to young people far more than “old” people. I’m 54 and I just ordered one. My son is 26 and he wants one, that’s a pretty decent age spread to market to. All the ads show 20-somethings driving them, not 50 or 60-somethings so I have to disagree with the assessment that it’s being marketed to blue-hairs.
Hey I just bought a 2024 RS Trax , I love it.
Im a young old 🙂
I own a 2016 Chevy Trax. I am 69 years young. I have never experienced anything so bizarre with my SUV. It’s been a great vehicle.
The Chevrolet Trax 2024 is awesome I brought 2.
