Introduced back in 2018 for the 2019 model year, the Chevy Silverado Medium Duty truck lineup is intended for the most hardcore vehicle applications. Even so, General Motors still offers a suite of colors for the MD trucks, and now, the 2024 Chevy Silverado MD boasts three new paint color additions to its palette.
The three new paint hues for the 2024 Silverado MD include (relevant color code in parenthesis):
- Lakeshore Blue Metallic (GXP)
- Slate Gray Metallic (GNO)
- Auburn Metallic (G48)
This brings the total available paint colors for the 2024 Silverado MD up to 12 shades, including (relevant color code in parenthesis):
- Auburn Metallic (G48)
- Black (GBA)
- Dark Ash Metallic (G6M)
- Glacier Blue Metallic (GLT)
- Greenstone Metallic (GHR)
- Lakeshore Blue Metallic (GXP)
- Northsky Blue Metallic (GA0)
- Red Hot (G7C)
- Silver Ice Metallic (GAN)
- Slate Gray Metallic (GNO)
- Sterling Gray Metallic (GXD)
- Summit White (GAZ)
It’s worth noting that three colors were subsequently moved from the regular paint color selection to the Special Equipment Option (SEO) color list, including (relevant color code in parenthesis):
- Deep Ocean Blue Metallic (G1K becomes 9W6)
- Oxford Brown Metallic (GNK becomes 9W1)
- Shadow Gray Metallic (GJI becomes 9W9)
As a reminder, the 2024 Chevy Silverado MD is equipped as standard with the 6.6L V8 L5D turbodiesel Duramax engine, which is rated at a maximum of 350 horsepower and 700 pound-feet of torque. Sharp-eyed readers may note the reduced output figures as compared to the 2024 Chevy Silverado HD and its 6.6L V8 L5P turbodiesel Duramax, which is rated at 470 horsepower and 975 pound-feet of torque. The answer is simple, as the L5D engine is tuned for increased longevity and reliability in the Silverado MD.
An Allison 6-speed automatic transmission serves to direct output to the ground, while both 2WD and 4WD configurations are available.
Under the skin, the Chevy Silverado MD rides on a platform jointly developed by Navistar and GM. Vehicle assembly takes place at the Navistar plant located in Springfield, Ohio.

We need this truck in Ontario
I want a red one with chrome.
Just a side note, Navistar is owned by V.W.
Nice truck….If you can get one. No dealers here in my area have any. Also, how about a big block ICE? Not very one wants a diesel. And maybe even a short wheel base model. The extra long frames look out of proportion.
I wonder why there is not a GMC version.
The International CV is that version.
Really don’t need three versions of this truck competing with itself.
Because GM decided years ago they wanted to push GMC further upmarket and leave Chevy to serve the majority of fleet and commercial duties.
Do they ever bother to have the option of pick a paint? Most of the demand for these trucks are from landscapers plumbers contractors that have their own paint schemes or colors.
I would guess 3/4+ of the ones out there are white, the majority remainder red, and an outside fraction painted custom by their owners.
Unless there are large state or municipal fleets which spec these additional paints, not sure why GM is even offering them. Don’t see room for three blue metallic options in this segment.
They have SEO colors, just like they do on the Silverado pickups. Which include a bunch of colors from previous generations, that are no longer offered in the regular retail color palette (like Pewter, Arrival Blue, and Victory Red to name a few). As well as some fleet-targeted colors, such as green, yellow, and orange.
So, no. They won’t mix up a custom paint just for you, but you do have options besides what’s in the brochure and the build & price tool.
Looking at purchasing a 4wd regular cab HD cab & chassis gas engine for our volunteer fire department here in deep east Texas. Currently have a F450, C2500, D250 all have 200-300 gallon slide in fire apparatus.
Soon after these trucks were indroduced in 2018, there were rumors that many major updates were coing, including a gasoline engine option, 22.5″ wheels, and air brakes. There was even talk of a heavier class 7 version. Howver, aside from a few paint color changes, very minor new options and additional transmission calibrations nothing has been done to these trucks in 5 years. My guess is that they meet GM and Navistar’s sales targets, so they are leaving well enough alone.
Too bad it apparently kept that “California clean idle” sticker, which doesn’t apply to the other 49 states.
Will it ever get the 10 speed? That would really help this truck…
I didn’t know that these came in all these colors. All I ever see is white.
These trucks need more updates than more color choices, they are not selling apparently, only making 45 units per day and that’s combined with CV’s at the Assembly Plant starting late August. Needs a Gasoline option and the newer cab, with a tighter turn radius on the 4×4 version IMO !
