2024 Buick Velite 6 EV Entry Version Launched In China

SAIC-GM has just officially launched the all-electric 2024 Buick Velite 6 lineup in China, introducing a new entry-level variant of Buick‘s country-exclusive zero-emission compact wagon.

General Motors’ main joint venture in China launched the 2024 Buick Velite 6, which adds a new base trim that includes a lower-range battery pack to make the all-electric mobility even more affordable. In fact, the 2024 Velite 6 EV becomes the lowest-priced vehicle in the entire Buick range currently available in the Chinese market – below the popular Excelle sedan.

The 2024 Buick Velite 6 EV represents the sixth model year for the nameplate launched in late 2018 as the brand’s first all-electric model. Since then, the company has substantially reduced the costs of the Velite 6’s powertrain technology, and decided to reposition it as the entry-level model by offering it alongside the next-generation electric vehicles in the new Electra family.

As such, the repositioned 2024 Buick Velite EV maintains the exact same look as in previous model years. It does not adopt Buick’s new corporate image, instead continuing to use the brand’s old logo and design language. In fact, the Velite 6’s raised wagon body measures the same 183.9 inches in overall length, 71.5 inches in width and 59.8 inches in height as before, mounted on a 104.7-inch wheelbase.

Based on a regional variant of the GM BEV2 platform first introduced in the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV, the 2024 Buick Velite 6 EV receives a lithium-ion battery pack with a range of 430 kilometers or 267 miles on a single charge – less than the 518-kilometer or 322-mile range provided by the upgraded version of the vehicle that arrived for the 2022 model year. The front-mounted electric motor developing 130 kW or 174 horsepower, along with 265 Nm or 195 pound-feet of torque, is unchanged.

The new entry-level variant of the 2024 Buick Velite 6 EV is now available for sale in the brand’s official dealer network in China, where the vehicle is exclusively manufactured and marketed. The interior is also unchanged, with a 10-inch digital instrument panel and a 10-inch central infotainment touchscreen, as well as a comprehensive list of safety and comfort features. Here are the prices of the 2024 Velite 6 EV:

  • 2024 Velite 6 EV Comfort: 112,800 yuan (about $15,480 USD at current exchange rates)
  • 2024 Velite 6 EV Premium: 115,800 yuan ($15,890 USD)

  1. Just one more nicer product that GM China gets and we don’t. Wasn’t the Chinese version of the Volt called the Velite 5? I thought it was even nicer looking than our Volt here. The US and Buick dealers need this (wagon-ish) Velite 6 and the Velite 5 sedan and Chevy should have kept the Volt. So sad to see how far Buick has fallen here in the US.

We in the US get a Buick line-up of 4 SUV/CUV’s while China gets all the good ones with the Cadillac CT6 as the cherry on the top of their cake. And we get a dried out graham cracker.

    1. Why is it garbage if it’s built in China? In reality, Chinese Buick workers are expert and amazing car builders! They are making billions for GM. What do we have here, moron union leaders pushing the American auto industry YET AGAIN toward bankruptcy. How embarrassing for Americans. Inside hint…..if you want a vehicle that may last forever, buy an Envision.

      1. I’ve always loved “broadbrushed” rude comments here, as if “some people”
are just TOO SMART for the rest of us peons.

  2. You are all forgetting that for every GM sold in China, the profits return to GM in the U.S. and every Japanese car sold in the U.S. send profits to their nation. Same with the Korean and every foreign brand sold in the U.S. So tell everyone not to buy any foreign brand car.

    1. They’re not making any money in CHina. They’re only providing technology to CHinese companies.

  3. China could not build a car until we showed them how. I saw this coming when it started, and I was right. China steals all our technology. I remember the first Chinese cars at the auto show. They were a joke with fit and finish. China is full of communist crooks.

    1. C1T0C8: Yes, and the exact same thing can and should be said about Japan. Anything from Japan was garbage and the US went and did everything they needed after we bombed them. And look at them now. They don’t want to work with the rest of the auto industry. They want to dominate it and destroy the rest. Just like the president of Lexus said back in the late 80’s.

I don’t trust any of them. I think some may have misunderstood my comment above. I’m NOT condoning us getting stuff from China. I’m saying that we need those products here. I’m very build it here, buy it here and keep the profits here.
