Following up on the mid-August 2022 debut of the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali, GM Authority got the opportunity to examine the range-topping luxury trim of the new generation truck closely at the launch drive event.
We’ve already shown you the exterior of the overhauled Canyon Denali in-depth, including eye-catching trim-specific headlights, grille, wheels, and other features, so today we’re following up with a GM Authority Live Photo Gallery of the truck’s cockpit.
The Jet Black / Teak interior colorway available exclusively on the Canyon Denali sets it apart from the other 2023 GMC Canyon trim levels. The dash features a gleaming, polished chrome surround and A/C vent bezel, framing additional luxurious details.
These include a real wood, open-pore finish accent piece extending across part of the dash, along with a quilted leather panel providing a softer and more tactilely pleasing dash surface. Large portions of the dash are also hard plastic, but the accent pieces provide an elite and upscale feel to the front seating positions.
The wooden dash accent features a laser-engraved “Denali” badge along with other laser-etched detailing. The open-pore finish gives the wood a more natural look and texture than a closed-pore, high polish surface that has a more “plasticky” feeling in many cases. While open-pore wood is slightly less durable than a closed-pore finish, the Canyon Denali accent pieces are not on wear surfaces.
Quilted leather finds its way to the door panels as well, along with more open-pore finish natural wood accenting. The real wood accents are only present on the truck’s front doors, not on the rear doors, which is different from other GM Denali trim level vehicles where wood accents are found both front and rear.
Quilted leather, wood trim, and other detailing come together at the door handle, armrest, and window switch.
Both the front and rear seats of the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali truck feature genuine perforated leather in Jet Black with Teak accents, providing a luxurious aesthetic and feel. The front seats are heated and ventilated, and the driver seat is 8-way power adjustable for maximum comfort. Leather seats are known not only for their ritzy appearance and feeling, but also for ease of cleaning and for adding to the vehicle’s resale value.
The seatbacks are stitched with the Denali name to complement the Denali badging found throughout the rest of the 2023 GMC Canyon Denali.
Under the skin, the all-new Canyon rides on the updated version of the GM GMT 31XX platform, which is internally designated as the 31XX-2. Production of the 2023 model began in January 2023 at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

Seems like GM really hates putting soft touch plastic /leather on the upper door panels.
GM not only does a lot of things right like the exterior styling, ride and handling, safety and tech, chassis balance, suspension technology but they are the best at it. They are quite good in power train dept too. I can’t understand how their interiors are such huge misses (both fit & finish and quality). They really need to get their heads outta their a$$es & allocate more funds to the interior designers.
Not sure if it’s a funding issue but a department head issue. Because that dash and interior trim is beyond ugly…..
beauty is in eye of beholder. The 20 something in charge of the dept. thinks it looks good. GM got rid of the older person because he had to many vacation days accrued.
When are we going to hear more on the Syclone?? Now that would get more attention to drool over! Tomg
They are still missing the mark on these interiors. That just looks awful.
The dash looks like there trying to hide its true ugliness with a light coloured (Leather) or vinyl
I do not want wood in my truck. I don’t want cheap looking padded add ons on my center console. Especially a light color that will look dirty all the time.
Where did they get the interior designer for the Colorado/ Canyon from?
Really nice design work on the exterior but this dash (not the touch screens) but the dash is just awful…
Why can’t we have a normal looking dash with the touch screens built in, not looking like an iPad leaning against an ugly dash?
But if Ford made it, you would think it was the greatest.
I own one and it is the best truck, what am!! Looks and power! Smoothest shifting vehicle ever! Oh yes, smoothest ride ever! Everyone comments on it!
Just ordered a Denali. Two things you should not have to pay for paint color and you would think for $51,000.00 it would come with a hitch!
I purchase a 2022 Canyon Delani from a GM dealership in Calgary Canada, when I received my $55,000 truck the front door panel did not match, and the front seat did not match the padding in the seats we’re different and the front driver seat so very uncomfortable, I lost $10,000 getting rid of that truck after 1,200 km and one month, Gm had no parts to fixed it, but that’s really not the point, how can such a poorly built truck leave a factory, and that was very visible, I wonder what else would have been wrong with this truck, never again Gm I’ve completely loss faith in this brand after owning 4 GM trucks in last 6 years.
I’ve had GMC Sierra and Canyons for years and waited for the new 23. Personally, I will NOT have a black interior (on any vehicle) and very particular about interior trim in general. GM has never been outstanding with interiors, but my Canyon Denali with tan was really nice (and very comfortable). I saw my first 23 Canyon Denali (in person) and was GREATLY disappointed. Nasty interior – black everywhere, except a few stripes of brown. It was like a dark, ugly cave – even the headliner is black. 2 hours later I purchased a new Ridgeline RTL-E. I can’t believe I have a “non-truck” Honda after all these years. However, it’s awesome with a totally beige interior and not a dark dungeon. It has FAR MORE options, features, rides better and totally free service for 24 months. And, it was over 6K less. More safety features and seats seem more comfortable. A Ridgeline is NOT a rugged off road truck like the GMC, but I’m not going mountain climbing anytime soon.
GM could at least offer interior color options for 55K in a small pickup. I’d like to be back in a GMC, but never with a full black and ugly pattern interior.
I hate black interiors, as well, but I do like GM trucks.
Is a bench seat available in the Canyon
