Speeding Chevy Traverse Destroys Powerline Pole: Video

It’s kinda crazy how much damage a single passenger vehicle can cause. Of course, when one considers how cars are basically thousands of pounds of metal, glass, and rubber capable of traveling at triple-digit speeds, the dangers should be somewhat obvious. Nevertheless, there are times when this danger is demonstrated in dramatic fashion, as is the case in this viral video showing a speeding Chevy Traverse taking out a utility pole.

Screenshot from a viral video showing a Chevy Traverse crashing into a utility pole.

The video is a little under 30 seconds long, and opens on a clear, sunny day. Some nearby flags indicate that the video was captured in Texas. We see some traffic at a four-way intersection, with multiple lanes headed in each direction. The video appears as though it was captured by a dash cam in a nearby vehicle.

As the video gets under way, we see traffic moving through the intersection parallel to the vehicle with the dash cam. Some of the cars to the left of the dash cam vehicle are turning right. Suddenly, we see a Chevy Traverse crossover enter the frame on the left-hand side, moving at a very high rate of speed across the sidewalk and grass adjacent to the road. After hopping over a small bump, the Chevy Traverse collides with a utility pole, resulting in a bright white flash as the power lines pop with electricity.

Half of the pole snaps off in the impact, with the top half of the pole hanging, still connected by the lines. The Chevy Traverse comes barreling to a stop, digging in and sending a large plume of dirt into the air and across the road. Luckily, the crossover stops before it can roll into nearby traffic and potentially cause even more damage. The aftermath shows bits of the utility pole and equipment lying out across the pavement.

According to the video description, the downed pole resulted in a power outage for thousands of residents. Meanwhile, the driver behind the wheel of the Chevy Traverse was hospitalized, but assumed to be okay.

  2. Why, why, why, does GM Authority permit its writers to help perpetuate negative incidents / stories?! Is there not enough daily idiocracy in our society that GMA must provide a platform for it, as well?!

    1. It’s a great safety and cautionary driving reminder for all of us and those that receive shares of the mishaps.

  3. Don’t judge without facts. Anyone can make a mistake, dodge someone else’s mistake or have an unexpected medical event at any time.
I have seen several vehicles that wrapped around the pole and the driver on impact. This one held up, wrapped around neither. A testament to Ralph Nader?
