Some Buick Encore, Encore GX Units To Get Extended Evaporative Emission Purge Pump Warranty

General Motors has issued an extended evaporative emission purge pump warranty period for certain units of the Buick Encore and Buick Encore GX due to the potential to fail.

Certain units of the 2020 Buick Encore and 2020 / 2021 Buick Encore GX may have a condition where the evaporative emission purge pump could fail. If this were to occur, affected units could trip the Malfunction Indicator Light – or the Check Engine Light – and set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

As a result, General Motors will extend the warranty coverage on affected vehicles from two years or 24,000 miles (whichever comes first) to a period of 15 years or 150,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the date the vehicle was originally placed into service. Notably, California vehicles have a standard warranty period of three years or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first).

It’s worth noting that owners who paid for the repair service themselves may be eligible for reimbursement. Additionally, if the evaporative emission purge pump were to fail, GM certified technicians will replace the emissions equipment as necessary, free of charge.

There is quite an extensive list of vehicles eligible for this extended warranty period, including (engine code in parenthesis):

Claims filed on or after July 28th, 2023 for any of the vehicles listed above will be covered.

  4. Same issue with my 2020 encore gx. Part ordered a month ago. We are headed into colder weather and the remote start will not work due to the check engine light on. I can locate the purge pump on line… Not sure why Buick can’t. I don’t blame the dealer. This is on Buick and GM.

  8. Inherited a 2020 Buick Encore GX. First, the turbo goes out. Takes a month to get the part and fix. Next, the engine light comes on. It’s the evaporative purge valve. Got it fixed. The light indicates again. Now it the evaporative purge pump. Nationwide shortage on the part. You know what I did? I traded that in with the engine light on. Good bye.
