Ohio Ultium Cells Plant Reaches Tentative Interim Pay Hike Agreement

As GM Authority previously reported, the workers at the Ultium Cells plant in Ohio are expecting to receive a bump in pay. Now, Ultium Cells LLC – the joint venture between General Motors and LG Energy Solution – has announced exactly what that interim pay raise includes and when it will be ratified.

All hourly employees at the Ultium Ohio plant are to receive a substantial pay raise, with the average jump being in the 25 percent ballpark. However, one of the more significant developments is that the interim wage increase will be retroactive, meaning that any current employee who has worked since December 23th, 2022 can receive payment of $3,000 to $7,000, based on hours worked.

“This interim wage increase is only the first step as we progress towards a fair and comprehensive contract for the dedicated UAW Local 1112 Membership as a result of the bargaining process,” UAW Local 1112 Chairman Josh Ayers said in a prepared statement. “The UAW Local 1112 members working at Ultium Cells deserve this increase for being essential in getting the plant up and running. While an entire ‘first’ agreement is being negotiated, the committee is still hard at work in bargaining working conditions, health and safety, seniority rights, addressing other issues raised by the membership and future wage increases throughout the term of this agreement.”

It’s worth noting that the membership ratification vote is expected to conclude by August 27th, 2023.

“This agreement is a significant and meaningful step as we continue to negotiate collaboratively and in good faith with the UAW to reach a comprehensive contract,” Ultium Ohio Plant Director Kareem Maine stated. “Our team members are at the core of our business, and we’re proud to be able to reach an interim agreement for wage increases that prioritizes our incredible workforce.”

  1. Now they will be making as much as Ultium’s engineers!

  2. I am amused. Our local school district mechanics are unionized too. A close person I know use to be between the mechanics and the state nispector. They produced crap maintenance, failed state inspections and yet the bosses did nothing nor could they be fired. Yep, expect costs to stay high for EVs. Now if they have a performance stipulation of you will produce high quality batteries at this pace which helps GM get more cars out the door….then maybe. JMHO.
