The thing about street driving is it usually involves low levels of constant attention. As such, it can be easy to fall into autopilot, especially if there’s something else around to distract you. Unfortunately for the drivers behind the wheel of these two Chevy Tahoe SUVs, that kind of inattention led to a very nasty accident.
Recently making the rounds on social media, the video is less than 30 seconds long, and appears as though it was captured by a dash cam belonging to another motorist. The dash cam coordinates indicate that the incident occurred in Pensacola, Florida on Sunday, August 20th, 2023, around 3:23 p.m. local time.
As the video gets under way, we see a few cars stopped at a light. A newer Chevy Tahoe is seen in the left lane, while a pickup is in the right, signaling to turn. Traffic is relatively light. With the lights still red, the pickup makes the turn onto the perpendicular street. However, the driver in the Chevy Tahoe then starts to move forward.
It looks like the driver in the newer Chevy Tahoe thinks the light had turned green as the pickup truck was turning right. The Chevy Tahoe moves into the intersection – just as an older Chevy Tahoe is seen moving into frame on the left, heading straight for the first Tahoe.
The driver in the older Chevy Tahoe tries to swerve out of the way, but it’s too late. The driver in newer Chevy Tahoe doesn’t see the incoming SUV until just before impact, as indicated by the brake lights. The two SUVs collide, sending the newer Chevy Tahoe spinning through the intersection. The older Chevy Tahoe goes up an embankment and through a low brick wall, narrowly missing an adjacent street light pole.
The damage looks quite heavy, and smoke is seen coming from both vehicles. Onlookers rush out to assist. The condition of both drivers is not known.

Drives me nuts all the IDIOTS that are constantly looking down at their phone while they are driving and especially every time the vehicle starts slowing down. EVERY stop light I look in my rear view mirror and the person pulling up behind me is staring down at their phone before their vehicle has stopped moving. And the number of complete idiots that start accelerating without looking up (like the knucklehead in this video) is just flat out amazing.
The icing on the cake is all the people whining about self-driving cars are the same ones that need them because they can’t be bothered to pay attention to the road for more than 5 seconds at a time.
People were praising Michigan’s new hands-free law that went into effect a couple of months ago. The law is meaningless to praise unless there is actual enforcement. I followed a lady during lunch hour this afternoon that wasn’t paying attention at three separate stoplights. I made sure that she heard my horn loud and clear each time.
We’ve had that in Georiga for some time now. At first people were concerned about getting a ticket for even touching the phone. Now, it’s like the law doesn’t exist. Between cell phones and blinking yellows it dangerous out there.
I’m sure she “got the message”…(🤣)
PERHAPS!
@your dad: I had to laugh as I was driving home last night from work. At every intersection, I ended up looking around me and almost every car had the driver and/or passengers glaring at the phones. About half way home, I stopped at a light and looked in my rear view (as I always do) to see if the car behind me was going to stop. As the SUV driver came to a stop, his eyes/head were tilted down. Once stopped, he lifted his hand with the phone in it and I saw him start to laugh. Then his female passenger (who was also on her phone) looked at his phone and laughed. Then they both went back to having their eyes stuck on their phones. Your comment immediately came to mind.
I’m reading this while driv…..
tahoe on tahoe violence!
Haha. Total zombie driver in both vehicles. Like “your dad” said perfectly above. Idiot in the black one was most likely staring down at the phone. It truly is amazing just how many people I see on the roads with the phone in their hands and looking down so much. The distracted driving is already so bad, and now with these stupid door to door screens across the dashes it’s going to be much worse.
I hate the thought of self driving cars because I’m a driver and enjoy it. But with the phone and screens taking over the lives of drivers, maybe self driving isn’t so bad.
Today NO POLICE FIGURE enforces the law…I’ve watched speed infractions be committed right Infront of law enforcement .But forbid you wear a mask during COVID (hoax) and be arrested…The Book of Revelation is being presented this very moment.
Settle down Doc, ‘The Book of Revelations’ (and all other fantasy books and fables) has nothing to do with this. The guy in the Tahoe that went through the red light was distracted, had nothing to do with anything else but bad driving. As for COVID just back off, you can keep your misinformation to yourself.
You can’t fix stupid my dude, just let him run his mouth and be on his way. All we can hope is that anybody reading his drivel has two functioning brain cells and they can recognize his nonsense for what it is on their own.
I have to respectfully disagree, where I live the police are pulling people over left and right. Maybe we have a smaller town and a larger police force. I don’t know. Our town is growing up fast though.
We don’t know if the idiot in the new Tahoe was looking at his phone or not, but he was obviously not paying attention – he took off as soon as the truck on his right made it’s turn, so the Tahoe didn’t even look to see if the light was still red. The driver of the white Tahoe was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Perfect example of the phrase “where two fools met,” although the driver of the older white Tahoe had no legitimate reason to assume the moron driving the black Tahoe would enter the intersection on a red light.
Just assume everyone around you will do the worst possible thing at the worst possible moment. It’s what my father taught me and I’ve been accident free for 50+ years.
The guy in the old Suburban really tried to avoid the Tahoe, there was only one fool at that intersection…
Looks like a great location for a traffic circle / roundabout. Drivers have to be more attentive and landscapded circles are far more attractive than this intersection.
Roundabouts are NOT the answer. They are some of the worst things that only confuse the old and stupid. They can try to shove any “study” they want in front of us, but that doesn’t translate into real world driving where these roundabouts are more dangerous than anything.
EXCUSE ME! Not the old and stupid. Roundabouts have been around a LING time. Just plain stupid. Plus, at a busy intersection that has 5 streets merging, it can be hectic for anyone. Put your phones down!
They started putting in round-a-bouts here in North Georgia. At first I totally hated them and thought they were terrible. Griswald in European Vacation came to mind. Now, almost a year later they have been working great. At some 4x stops that had LONG lines at rush hour now the lines are pretty much gone. I can pretty much guarantee you that anyone who has been driving for years (and I dont mean just a couple, i’m thinking 20+) had at one time or another started going when the car next to them started to go. Things like this is more common than most people think. oh yeah, put the damn cell phones down !
Please! No don’t make them put the phone down! They will be completely bored out of their minds! The only thing my phone is used for is music in the car, and the call over Bluetooth. But that’s about it.
Not sure why you’re making the assumption the idiot at fault was a “he” ??
Back to the future… Tahoe style !
Drive safe ‘chillins.
Looking at the video…had the driver of the old Tahoe been driving 5MPH slower or the driver of the newer SUV driving 5MPH faster, that broadside would have most assuredly ended in the loss of life.
Is this REALLY newsworthy? Just another car wreck, happens everyday.
Dare I say dumb***!
WOW most of you people think your perfect and have never made a single mistake in your perfect little world. Stuff happens every day and that’s why it’s called accident and not a mistake. Have a heart and hope your fellow human was not injured in this accident. They saw the vehicle on the right move and thought the light was green and again but yes they should have looked at the light but stuff happens every day!
Vehicles should be mandatory equipped with cell phone jammers operating while the engine is running.
People need to learn to drive in mountains on snow and ice then they would probably be better drivers because they would be more careful in ther driving or drive a race car. People need to leave there phones off while driving as well their the worst distraction and should never have been invented. Race car drivers are more careful in their driving.
This happens a lot people looking at phone at the light. They see cars next to them going and ASSUME they are supposed to go, rather than looking at the light they just take off. Same thing happened with a horn, driver in front of me had a green for straight ahead. Left lane turner heard my horn and took off on red with the straight ahead guy. Happened several other times…never saw an accident from it but all close calls
