It was not a good race to be behind the wheel of a NASCAR Chevy Camaro ZL1 at Michigan International Raceway on Sunday, August 6th or Monday, August 7th, 2023. The race was called due to rain after 74 laps and postponed to Monday, marking two days’ worth of frustration for The Bow Tie teams.
Things went south quickly, with the No. 8 Camaro of Kyle Busch wrecking just 15 laps in. Busch spun out and slammed the wall in the No. 8 Camaro, forcing his early retirement. Then, on Lap 35, Chase Elliott’s No. 9 Camaro blew a tire and backed into the outside wall, ending his day. Unfortunately, this incident and early retirement puts Elliott in a must-win situation if he wants to make the postseason Playoffs, with only three races left until the cutoff. On the restart, William Byron’s No. 24 Camaro got into the wall and caused severe enough damage to warrant his early exit.
Then, the No. 42 NASCAR Chevy, driven this weekend by Josh Berry, also blew a tire and wrecked after the Stage 2 restart, forcing him to exit early as well. The No. 48 Camaro of Alex Bowman was the next to go down, as he made contact with a competitor on the backstretch and had to be towed onto Pit Road. His NASCAR Chevy team set to work to repair the race car in the five-minute allotted time, bringing it back down several times to address damage before finally retiring.
All said and done, the No. 5 Camaro of Kyle Larson brought home the best result for The Bow Tie, finishing fifth. Daniel Suárez took sixth in the No. 99 Camaro, followed by Ross Chastain in the No. 1 Camaro. Chris Buescher’s No. 17 Ford Mustang wound up in Victory Lane after a hard-fought battle against the No. 19 Toyota TRD Camry of Martin Truex Jr.

I’ve been to MI many times over the years. Marcus Ambrose set the pole speed at 203 mph one year. Those cars handled much better than the crap car package Nascar has now!! Like Ralph Nader said ” Unsafe at any speed “. Time for Nascar to man up and admit they created a Frankenstein car that is a turd! The driver’s should boycott Nascar till they change back to the last generation!
It will interesting with three races to go.
