The GM Authority Take

We attribute the drop in GMC Terrain sales this quarter to ongoing supply issues. From what we know, Big Red’s compact crossover is very much in demand and its sales volume is being stifled by supply issues stemming from shipping the model from Mexico.

About GMC Terrain

The 2024 GMC Terrain arrives with minimal changes, specifically losing two exterior paint colors. Meanwhile, pricing uncovered for the 2024 Terrain shows most trim levels actually dropping in starting price as compared to the 2023 Terrain. This is because both SLE and SLT trims removed the three years of OnStar & Connected Services Plan, which caused both trim levels to drop by $1,200 in starting MSRP. In that package’s place is three years of Remote Access. The off-road-oriented Terrain AT4 package receives a price drop of $505, gaining the Remote Access package along with some active safety tech packages that are now standard. The Denali trim receives no changes in equipment or price and retains the OnStar plan. Check out all the 2024 Terrain pricing with options.

The 2025 GMC Terrain is on the way as a next-generation model, arriving next year. Here’s what we know and expect regarding the 2025 Terrain.

While future sales will depend on the next-gen Terrain, GM’s biggest challenge is whether Big Red can build enough units of its smallest crossover to meet demand.

  1. Not saying much about the Cherokee. It’s not even made anymore. This turd did not age well.

  2. It’s so “very much in demand” that it has only a 3% market share, and delivered units are down 21% YTD,

This model doesn’t have a supply issue. It is actually one of the few crossovers actually sitting on dealer lots. It is more of a last resort vehicle that people buy when they absolutely need something and can’t get [or can’t wait for] their first, second, or third choice.

It’s competent enough, but doesn’t stand out in any specific or special way.

  3. You don’t seem to have much of your username. In its 5th year the terrain set a sales record and continues to sell all the plant can produce. JD power consistently ranks the Equinox and Terrain at the top of their dependability studies and the pipsqueak engine is the same size as the Cr-V, Rogue and Escape and produces more torque than everyone’s standard engines. the fact that it is combined with a 9 speed automatic is an extra bonus compared to the CVTs paired with pretty much everyone else’s offerings. So better quality, better performance, and having driven all of them, better refinement its not wonder they continue to sell well despite being around for quite some time. Could they use a refresh of the exterior and interior and an upgrade to the newer tech infotainment? Of course. But the fact that GM continues to sell all they can make is a testament to how good they are as compared to their predecessors and the competition.
