GMC Sierra Average Transaction Price Up 6.2 Percent In Q2 2023

Customers paid somewhat more at the dealership for the GMC Sierra in Q2 2023 than they did a year prior, with average transaction price or ATP for the truck growing 6.2 percent year-over-year. For the second quarter, the ATP for the GMC brand rose 9 percent and GM’s ATP overall increased 4 percent.

The Q2 ATP for the GMC Sierra registered at $71,924 for April, May, and June 2023, a 2.7 percent gain from Q1 ATP of $70,007, per Cox Automotive figures.

Turning to units sold, GMC sold 130,606 trucks and SUVs during Q2, an 8 percent rise year-over-year. Cox points out Big Red’s sales have been consistent, unlike the “roller-coaster” of the three other GM brands. GMC Sierra deliveries amounted to 75,810 units during the second quarter, a 22 percent jump over Q2 2022, and an increase of more than 8,000 units compared to Q1 2023.

Despite its robust sales the GMC Sierra barely made the top three performers from the brand when it comes to percentage growth in volume year-over-year. The GMC Acadia came first at 58 percent, the GMC Yukon XL at 43 percent, and the GMC Yukon and GMC Sierra tied for third place at 22 percent each.

Vehicle sales volume for the whole of GM during Q2 2023 grew by 19 percent, reaching 689,095 units sold. The amount still falls short of the approximate average of 750,000 vehicles sold in Q2 during recent pre-pandemic years, but is getting closer to that level.

Q2 2023 incentive spending for GMC declined by 18 percent compared to last year to $1,793, the only one of The General’s brands to shrink its incentives. At the other extreme, Buick increased its incentives by a whopping 79 percent from $1,077 in 2022 to $1,923 in 2023.

Cadillac incentives grew 18 percent and Chevy incentives rose by only 9 percent. Overall, GM second quarter incentives averaged across its four brands gained 14 percent from $1,754 in 2022 to $2,006 in 2023 .

As a reminder, the 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is motivated by a lineup of four available powerplants. These include the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B gasoline engine, atmospheric 5.3L V8 L84 gasoline engine, atmospheric 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine, and the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax.

For cog swaps, the L3B is matched to the GM eight-speed automatic transmission, while the L84, the L87 and the LZ0 are mated to the GM 10-speed automatic transmission.

Looking under the skin, the GMC Sierra rides on the GM T1 platform. Production takes place at the GM Fort Wayne plant in Indiana and GM Silao plant in Mexico.
