The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has all the right stuff to conquer the local trails, mating modern all-electric underpinnings with the sort of off-road capability that the Hummer nameplate is famous for. Now, GMC is partnering with the overlanding specialists at EarthCruiser to offer a new upfit for the Hummer EV Pickup, and it looks to include some very interesting bits and pieces, as teased in a recent image.
GMC teased the new GMC Hummer EV Pickup Overlander via social media, showing a single shadowy image capturing the vehicle profile. The new teaser follows an initial teaser image released late this past March.

The new teaser image shows the GMC Hummer EV Pickup at night, with the Milky Way stretched out above the all-electric off-roader. The rig is illuminated from the side, and appears to show a matte paint finish along the body panels. More striking, however, is the large pop-up tent situated on the roof, which appears to include perimeter lighting that complements the iconic signature lighting up front. The tent also looks as though it can compress down into the roof for storage while on the move, then expand upwards to form a large sleeping area at the end of the day.
For those readers who may have missed it, the initial GMC Hummer EV Pickup Overlander teaser included what appeared to be a large camper shell and photovoltaic solar panel array.
Further information on the GMC Hummer EV Pickup Overlander Concept is expected later this month.
Based in Bend, Oregon, EarthCruiser offers a wide variety of high-end overlanding vehicles. A few examples would include the EXP, the FX, and the EC Terranova.
Applying a little overlanding magic to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup could certainly yield some very enticing results. Naturally, we’ll have to wait a bit longer to see what those results may be. As a reminder, the GMC Hummer EV rides on the GM BT1 platform, while vehicle production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant in Michigan.

I simply love all these ads featuring EV Pickups aspitationally going off trail into the deep deep woods or wilds. What happens once they run the batteries down camping for a weekend running all their electronics? How are they gonna get home?
Bring your Cummins-ONAN Generator
A pack the size of the Hummer could run a whole house for a week. So whatever you’re doing at the campsite using electricity isn’t going to be that big of a deal. Also, EVs are very efficient at lower speeds so the Hummer would use very little battery going deep into the woods. High-speed driving hurts EVs a lot more.
Real life off-road tests of Rivians and Jeep 4XEs in electric mode show mileage is reduced by 85-90% in the sticks. So an EV with 300 mile range on the streets is reduced to 30-45 miles overlanding at best. As someone who lives in Wyoming, I can assure you with 110% certainty that this makes outdoorsy adventures a one way trip. You can put big knobby tires on them all you want, they’re still just city dweller pose-mobiles. All 83 of them.

They sold 47 in second quarter just completed. How long until these make it to market?
