GM has filed to trademark the Panther name GM Authority has learned. The trademark will be used for the 2024 Chevy Camaro.
The trademark was filed on July 25th, 2023 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), and is assigned serial number 98100506. The application carries a Goods and Services description of “Automobiles.”
The Panther name will be used with the 2024 Chevy Camaro. Set to be the final model year for the current sixth-generation sports car, the 2024 Chevy Camaro offers a couple special edition model variants, including a model variant dubbed the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition.
As GM Authority has covered on several occasions prior, the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition incorporates a wide variety of special features and unique twists to help it stand out from the crowd. Many of these features give a nod to the first-gen Chevy Camaro produced in the ‘60s by referencing Panther, the internal code name that GM gave the Camaro program back in the day.
“We found it fitting for this Collector’s Edition Camaro to officially recognize the significance of the original code name and share it with Camaro enthusiasts,” said design director, Chevrolet Performance, Rich Scheer, in reference to the 2024 Chevy Camaro Collector’s Edition.
Some of the standout features include Panther Black Metallic Tintcoat paint, which is available by selecting the Collector’s Edition package for LT/RS, LT1, and SS trim levels. There’s also Panther Matte Black paint, the first factory matte paint option offered for Camaro, available when selecting the Collector’s Edition package for the ZL1 trim level.
Further panther references include a panther on the steering wheel badge, while unique exterior badging includes the outline of a panther inside the “R” of the Camaro nameplate.

Panther was the name the Camaro designers wanted for the new car. GM turned it down for being too aggressive. So now, some 70 years later, it reappears. The name Camaro same from a Spanish-English dictionary. It has several meanings. The one GM liked was friend or fast friend. But it also was a kind of shrimp. GM never mentioned that,.
I think GM was smart to trademark Panther. I’m guessing that will be the name of the next Camaro type project. I’m still all in for a non-Collector’s edition of the ZL1. I should know more after August 8th. Fingers crossed. I own a 2010 2SS Camaro that I picked up on Christmas Eve in 2009. The name Camaro means to me is “A rush to drive.”
Why can’t the customer get the information on the 2024 Special Edition Camaro on buying the car? Allocations to dealers, constraints, price.
It’s frustrating that we can order the car June 15, 2023. But don’t know the price as of August 11, 2023. Very frustrating.
I have owned 7 Camaros starting with the 1967. I really want the 2024 Panther edition but chevy is being so damn tight on the allocations, why? It seems like they don’t want to sell the car or build them. If there is a demand for them, then let the public have them.
Could be the “chip” shortage issue?
Could it be the “pushing of electric cars?”
Could it be “they” are trying to create an enigma?
Could it be to create an “expensive collector car?”
Could it be “pressure” coming from unseen forces?
Could it be to “make” me buy a Mustang? LOL🤣🤣
Hum… “it’s” got me scratching my head…🤷🏻♂️
