GM Design Team Releases Rugged Chevy Two-Door SUV Sketch

General Motors doesn’t skimp when it comes to off-roaders, with a broad variety of vehicles available to those who like to get a little dirty. That certainly doesn’t look like it’s going to change any time soon, with vehicles like the GMC Hummer EV introducing a new all-electric chapter for The General’s trail-ready offerings. Now, we’re getting a look at this exciting Chevy two-door SUV concept, which could very well provide the inspiration for some future model.

Rear end of a new Chevy two-door SUV concept.

Coming to us from the GM Design Instagram feed (@generalmotorsdesign), this concept was created by GM Creative Designer Darby Jean Barber (@darbymx5), and includes a front three-quarters view and rear three-quarters view. Although there’s no indication what this vehicle might be called and when it was drawn, the large “Chevrolet” script placed on the nose and the tailgate makes it clear which brand lays claim.

From the off, this Chevy two-door makes its off-roading aspirations crystal clear thanks to a lifted stance and big, knobby off-road tires. The front end is creased and angular, with the hood-line divided from the front fascia by a single black strip visually connecting the upper lighting elements. The lights are arranged in a stacked, horizontal layout, with the topmost light extended into the center crease. Below the stacks, we see a vertically oriented fog light.

The front fascia indicates that this thing is likely all-electric, which, as we’ve seen from the GMC Hummer EV, offers certain benefits for the off-roader crowd, including precise torque application, four-wheel steering, a low center of gravity, and more. The upright greenhouse also reminds us of the Chevy Trailblazer, as does the two-tone roof.

Moving into the rear, we see the tailgate equipped with carbon fiber trim, which complements the side sills. Stacked lighting elements similar to those up front are repeated in the rear, while up top, the sleek roof treatment terminates in a curved spoiler element above the hatch.

While obviously just a sketch, this thing certainly has our attention.

  1. If it’s EV-only, waste your time on something that buyers will actually want.

  5. Looks interesting but they better hurry, I’m getting old and tired of waiting for a Wrangler/ Bronco fighter. I won’t buy a Chrysler Jeep but I do like the new 2-door Bronco.

  6. Please,,, I’ve been waiting five months for a Tahoe allocation. Stop with the futuristic fairytale doodling and put your efforts into building and delivering me a vehicle that you supposedly produce now.

    1. I think this is new EV Tahoe or some special edition. It matches Escalade IQ in a few ways. There is space for a Himmer-based platform mate and, finally, some differencuation between Tahoe, Yukon and Escalade. Chevy could even squeeze in a third body on frame offering like like GMC but at a more accessible price.

  7. I have no interest in this. But would love to see all the 1st sketch pictures and what we actually get years later. Who didn’t do this in school for nothing but our own enjoyment.

  8. The lack of a grille and tailpipe make it instantly less interesting.

  11. Nice concept, but GM will never build it. Ya may sell a handful and will quickly become a novelty. Maybe give it duramax, or a high hp gas motor.. EVs just not ready for em

    1. Its an EV so they just might build it.

  12. Would rather see a Trax AWD EV based on the 2024 body for around $28k, than something like this which they’d probably price around $65k.

Something to compete with the Ford Mustang Mach E for about 1/3 of the price!

  13. But will it be a true off-roader, capable enough to play with the wrangler and bronco, or just another highway cruiser with big (noisy) tires.

  14. Another chopped top design from GM. Didn’t they learn anything from the “success” of the Camaro?

  15. I would consider buying one if it had a ICE. By the time we get charging stations in real areas and off-road in the wilderness I will be long gone!

  16. Just BUILD IT, FFS! I have been waiting literally DECADES for a new 2-door to replace my 97 Tahoe!

(And give me the option of a 6.2 L)
