GM Design Team Releases Cadillac Escalade IQ Sketches

The 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ finally got its big reveal earlier this month, with GM pulling the sheets on the luxury SUV’s first-ever all-electric offering. As one might expect, the all-new Cadillac Escalade IQ presents a clean-sheet design, and now, we’re getting a look at the design sketches that provided the inspiration.

Coming to us from the official GM Design Instagram feed, the sketches show the SUV from the front, the side, and the rear, giving us a clear view of what the design talent was going for in terms of styling.

Design concept sketch for the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ.

Let’s start in front, where the Escalade IQ design sketch present an upright fascia design that mixes vertical and horizontal lines with chiseled features, creating a futuristic look. The grille is blocked off, as expected from an EV, with subtle styling lines adding some dynamism into the mix. The front lighting elements run vertically along the sides of the fascia, bookending the crest-like grille, while creating a hard angle with the broad hood line stretching across the upper portion of the fascia.

The profile reveals a streamlined and sleek design with a relatively low greenhouse and swept-back proportions. The rolling gear is obviously oversized, per tradition for concepts, with a few of the sketches showing off multi-spoke wheels with a silver finish. Further horizontal styling elements, such as a marker behind the front fender and embellishments in the rear pillars, give the profile a sense of movement.

The rear end bookends the front with vertical lighting elements in one sketch, while another lays out a series of hard angles to create more aggressive look.

While none of these sketches perfectly capture the final production design, the ideas presented are still echoed in the vehicle that was unveiled earlier in the month. As a reminder, the 2025 Cadillac Escalade IQ will begin rolling off the production line next summer, with pricing starting around $130,000.

  1. Designers should avoid putting freak wheels on their sketches. They can’t improve a poor design and only distract from a good one.

I’m glad they went with body-colored wheel arches, which they should put on all their cars.

  3. Very happy they are changing Escalade lines. Hoping 🙏 it won’t take 10 years to launch the product.

  4. Looks way better than what went into production.

  5. The final design looks like a bloated Lyriq. That’s not a refresh…that’s a “re-do”! And they should make it a little more expensive, that way it will compete with the Celestiq for the fewest number of car sales in a year.
