Corvette Racing Muscles To Podium Finish At Road America 2023

The Corvette Racing duo of Jordan Taylor and Antonio Garcia took home a hard-fought third-place result at Road America on August 6th, 2023, wheeling the No. 3 Corvette C8.R to the podium after a two-hour, 40-minute race.

Early in the race, Taylor guided the No. 3 to the GTD Pro class lead as several competitors pitted, laying down blistering lap times before turning control over to Garcia with a little less than an hour left in the event. After pitting for four tires and fuel, Garcia dove back out onto the racing surface.

However, the Corvette Racing team was nailed with a penalty for not meeting the minimum refueling time outlined by the sanctioning body. The team attempted to argue its case with the sanctioning body, but lost the appeal. Thus, Garcia was forced to serve a drive-through penalty, surrendering the lead with 24 minutes left on the clock. They went on to finish third, and now must win in order to gain points in the championship.

“A very disappointing result and a shame about the penalty,” Garcia said after the race. “We had strong pace and good strategy calls that put us in the lead late. It was a hard but fair fight with the Aston late. Instead of gaining points in the championship, now we have lost more. Winning races is our only goal from now on.”

Taylor had a more positive outlook after his turn behind the wheel.

“I was happy with my stint,” he said. “The Corvette Racing guys did a great job giving us a good setup to move forward and eventually take the lead a couple of times. Things were looking great until the penalty on the last stop. Now we have to focus on getting maximum points in every race from here on.”

  2. To be honest. I’ve never followed this type of racing until I became a C8 owner. With the balance of power, minimum fuel times, and who knows what other BS rules. This racing is way over regulated. It makes NASCAR look good.

  3. If there were no rules like this most MFGs would leave and the series dies. We have seen it time and time again.

Also with the Change in the GTLM class if not for rules like this Corvette would not have been let to run period.

Racing is a business and cost have to be contained and teams have to be made to be equal to keep the money coming in.

Some times the rules hurt the Vettes but there have been a number of times they favored the cars. Lemans this year Corvette had a great power advantage. Good thing as they had to make up for the issues they had in the race.

Pure racing died years ago and it is time some figure it out.

  4. I believe that the sanction body of the GTLM does not want to see a Corvette in front of the European makes , So they fine ways, to take the Wins from the Corvette racing guys ! As much that I like to keep up with Corvette racing , I going to stop and Just keep up with NASCAR CUP racing !

  5. More ridiculous nonsensical rules destined to destroy racing. It’s really a pity. I raced a B/P Corvette ages ago when racing was really fun. I don’t think it is anymore. Cheers!
