Chevy Trailblazer Park Assist Retrofits Under Way

GM has expanded the Rear Park Assist feature (RPO code UD7) retrofits available under Customer Satisfaction Program N222375791 to more models, and dealership-installed retrofits are now available for affected units of the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer and 2023 Chevy Trailblazer produced without the feature.

The post-COVID industry-wide semiconductor shortage caused certain units of the 2022 and 2023 Chevy Trailblazer to be built without the rear park assist they were originally supposed to include, according to the service bulletin.

As concerns the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer, rear park assist was normally available on the LS trim level as part of the Driver Confidence and Cruise Package (RPO code WPN) and on the LT, Activ and RS trim levels as part of the Driver Confidence Package (RPO code ZL5) or Confidence II Package (RPO code SOR). Some units built after January 10th, 2022 did not include rear park assist.

Meanwhile, the 2023 Trailblazer, rear park assist was ordinarily available on the Preferred trim level as part of the Safety Package (RPO code WPD) and on the LT, Activ and RS trim levels as a component of the Driver Confidence Package (RPO code ZL5) or Confidence II Package (RPO code SOR). Some units built from production start up until November 29th, 2022 did not include rear park assist.

For the 2022 model year, the base L trim did not offer Rear Park Assist as an available feature, so Chevy Trailblazer L units were unaffected by the constraint and not included in the retrofit. The L trim was dropped after the 2022 model year.

For both model years, units affected by the constraint and currently eligible for a retrofit are indicated as such with RPO code 00Y printed on their window sticker.

Notably, the rear park assist feature on the 2023 Chevy Trailblazer came under constraint again starting on December 26th, 2022 and continuing through the end of production for the 2023 model year. However, these units are not eligible for a dealer retrofit. The ineligible units are marked as such with RPO code 060 printed on the window sticker.

A number of other Chevy models were affected by limited availability of park assist features during the same timeframe and from the same causes. Units of the Chevy Camaro, the Chevy Corvette, and some trim levels of the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 were all built without the Rear Park Assist feature (UD7) they were supposed to be equipped with.

Additionally, some models were built without Front and Rear Park Assist (RPO code UD5). These once again include the fully refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 along with  the Chevy Tahoe and Chevy Suburban, which normally have the park assist feature as standard on all trim levels.

Per the terms of the Customer Satisfaction Program, affected and eligible 2022 and 2023 Chevy Trailblazer units can now be retrofitted with Rear Park Assist at Chevy dealers for no extra charge. To repair the feature, dealership service personnel replace the Park Assist Control Module with a new module, and possibly reprogram either the instrument cluster or the active safety control module.

The retrofit is available for affected Chevy Trailblazer units through August 31st, 2026. All purchasers of affected units were informed at the time of purchase about the constraint on the feature along with the future availability of a retrofit. Owners of affected Chevy Trailblazer units can call Chevy customer service at the number below, referencing the service bulletin number if needed, if they have additional questions or concerns:

  1. WAY too complicated. If units are eligible for a retrofit, wouldn’t they have the sensors in the rear bumper and those not eligible don’t? That sounds a lot simpler. If they put sensors on all units, then I’d be filing a suit against GM.
