Chevy Equinox Inventory Improving In July 2023

Chevy Equinox inventory levels were on the rise across the United States in the beginning of July 2023, GM Authority sources close to the matter tell us.

There were roughly 7,900 units of the Chevy Equinox on the ground at dealerships as of early July 2023, with an additional 9,700 examples on their way to dealers. This gives the Equinox an 18 days supply, meaning that inventory levels are able to sustain 18 days worth of current sales volume. As context, a 60 days supply is considered optimal across the automotive industry.

For reference, inventory levels of the Bow Tie brand’s compact crossover had been slowly decreasing since the beginning of the 2023 calendar year. In June 2023, the Equinox had approximately 5,700 units on dealership lots and 6,800 examples en route for a 14 days supply. Before that, April 2023 inventory levels featured 10,600 units on the ground and 5,900 in transit for a 19 days supply. March 2023 calculations saw 15,000 units on dealership lots and an additional 7,000 units in transit for a 26 days supply, while February 2023 inventory levels included 18,000 units on the ground and 9,000 units in transit for a 36 days supply.

It’s worth noting that sales of the Bow Tie compact crossover fell over the course of Q2 2023, reflecting the decreasing days supply figures of the past few months.

As a reminder, the current 2024 Chevy Equinox is offered with one powerplant, the new-for-2023 turbocharged 1.5L I4 LSD gasoline engine, rated at 175 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque, with said output directed to the pavement via the GM six-speed automatic transmission. The LSD engine replaced the turbocharged 1.5L I4 LYX gasoline engine, which developed 170 horsepower and 203 pound-feet of torque.

Under the skin, the Equinox rides on the GM D2 platform, while production of the 2024 model year officially kicked off in May 2023 at the GM Ramos Arizpe plant and the GM San Luis Potosí plant, both of which are located in Mexico.

  1. Well, two problems are the cause here. First, the early model year changeover (with few changes) were a minor part of the problem. But the BIG issue, according to GM, is/was the rail strike (which I’ve heard nothing about for several weeks now).
Pretty pathetic for one of GMs biggest sellers.

    1. You’ve heard nothing about the rail strike because there was not one. Biden signed legislation in December 2022 and the strike was averted. But that doesn’t mean transportation is OK because it’s a mess, especially getting stuff out of Mexico, where the Equinox is built. My dealership has over 45 equinox available in theory, not a single one on the ground here.
