The GM Authority Take

The growth in Cadillac XT5 sales are welcome, but there’s no denying that the nameplate is selling in substantially lower quantities than most of its competitors. We posit that the XT5 is not selling in as high of quantities as its direct rivals primarily due to product factors, as rivals offer newer and more attractive vehicles when compared to the XT5.

It’s also worth noting that Cadillac has been ranked as the third-most considered luxury brand for the second consecutive quarter, edged out by Lexus and BMW in second and first, respectively. This suggests that Cadillac is being considered, but does not ultimately earn the sale, at least when it comes to the XT5.

About Cadillac XT5

The 2023 Cadillac XT5 soldiered on with minimal changes compared to the 2022 Cadillac XT5. It received three new paint colors, while the Bose Performance 14-speaker stereo, embedded navigation and ambient lighting became standard on the Premium Luxury and Sport trim levels.

The 2024 Cadillac XT5 arrives with minimal changes and updates compared to the preceding 2023 model year, including a trio of accent packages – the new Red Accent PackageBlue Accent Package, and Bronze Accent Package.

A next-generation Cadillac XT5 is destined solely for China.

While the XT5 has continued to outsell the Nautilus since Lincoln introduced it for the 2019 model year, when it replaced the MKX, the Lincoln model slightly moved ahead this quarter, even as the all-new 2024 Lincoln Nautilus is set to launch early next year.

Over the next few years, vehicle sales positions will likely change considerably in the D luxury crossover segment as both GM and other automakers continue to move forward with their respective transitions to battery electric models for the U.S. When it comes to Cadillac, that includes the recently-leaked Cadillac Optiq and teased Cadillac Escalade IQ along with another three-row model poised to join the luxury marque’s first-ever EV currently on sale, the Cadillac Lyriq.

  5. GM is really trying to push it’s customer base to other brands by shifting sales of the XT5 to China but that’s because China has a big stake in GM so it’s only a matter of time. I guess it’s time to find a brand that wants USA customers.

  6. Nice headline, but XT5 sales are up about 2.6% over last year’s qtr, but GV70 sales are up 117% over last year’s qtr. It will be interesting to see if the story changes later in the year.
