The GM Authority Take

Buick Envision sales during the second quarter of 2023 continued the momentum from last quarter, keeping the small premium crossover in second place in its segment. We attribute the very healthy performance to solid interest in the vehicle, a highly competitive product, and ample inventory at the retail/dealer level.

Better yet, combining sales of the Envision with those of the Cadillac XT4 kept GM at the top of the segment to account for over a quarter of all deliveries.

About Buick Envision

The 2023 Buick Envision represents the third model year of the crossover’s second generation. It remains largely unchanged from the 2022 Buick Envision save for a few updates to the color palette and equipment, including new standard equipment added to the Avenir trim level.

The crossover continues to be powered solely by GM’s turbocharged 2.0L I4 LSY gasoline engine, rated at 228 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. The four-cylinder is mated to the GM nine-speed automatic transmission, with front-wheel-drive standard and all-wheel-drive optional.

In December Consumer Reports named Buick Envision among the best vehicles to fit three child car seats, and in January it gave the 2023 Buick Envision a “recommended” rating.

Refreshed 2024 Buick Envision in the range-topping Avenir trim

The 2024 Buick Envision will introduce a mid-cycle refresh to include updated styling and a revised interior. Recently GM released the first official images of the refreshed 2024 Envision, showing off the exterior and interior of the updated model. Images of the front fascia show the brand’s Pure Design language and the Tri-Shield brand’s new corporate fascia introduced on its newest models, namely the first-ever 2024 Buick Envista and refreshed 2024 Buick Encore GX.

The automaker also revealed that the refreshed 2024 Buick Envision will offer the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assistance feature for the first-time ever on the nameplate and a first for a Buick model in North America.

With solid inventory levels and a refreshed Envision on the horizon, sales of the Tri-Shield brand’s premium small crossover should maintain a strong, upward trend and put competitive pressure on the (perpetual) segment leader, the Lexus NX.

  1. Great news! Great vehicle! Worthy of Buick in terms of style, quality, reliability and value. The Chinese workers who build this vehicle are awesome. Please excuse my suspicious nature but, did anyone notice how the updated ‘24 reveal was pushed back 6 months? With the world geopolitical situation as it is….does anyone out there believe GM may be quietly moving US destined production to a different location?

    1. I would be willing to bet that 80% of the people buying these aren’t even aware that it was imported from China. If they did know, they would probably think twice about purchasing. It doesn’t matter how “great” the vehicle is, or how “awesome” the workers may be [who knows, they may actually have disdain for Americans; we don’t know them]. Made in China and imported to the US means deal breaker. I have no issue with vehicles imported from Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Germany, Italy, UK, Canada, etc. But China is an instant “no”. There are some products I have no choice but to buy that are made in China, but those products aren’t $40K cars either.

GM revealed the 2024 Envision back in June. They are not going to be making any changes to the production location for this model for US destined units. It is considered a “low volume” seller for them in the US, and they aren’t going to invest in North American production for it. Besides, GM isn’t exactly on good terms with the UAW right now, so they aren’t going to move production to a domestic factory and pay more for labor or perhaps even experience a work stoppage with no production at all. With the Envista coming out of South Korea, and the Envision coming out of China, they will still have Buick products to sell in the event of a UAW work stoppage.

      1. The UAW is the reason many cars are built and shipped to the US. The pay and pension they get still don’t add up to what toyota and honda pay in non union shops. Unions had their place but laws have replaced the union and people need to understand that.

The envision sales don’t surprise me, its a very good looking car. It seems to catch my eye everytime i see them.

  2. Most people don’t read car new or know where a vehicle is built. Envision is a great product, as good as Lexus, and better than XT4 at a more affordable price.

Buick has so much potential if GM would really commit and work on great marketing. Honestly think Buick could thrive in Europe with Ultium offering a better version of Opel without the factory upkeep or pensions. Wish front fascia and design language had been left alone. “PURE” is ugly. Oddly , Opel is “Bold and Pure” so I think plans were developed together. Encore GX was clearly meant for EU with that red stripe

  3. My wife came home today from filling her car with gas “I think I sold another Envision today”. She loves her car and tells everyone she meets to buy one. As far as China goes, they buy a million Buicks a year. Enough said. Also, if the UAW goes on strike the Buick dealers will be grateful for their “Chinese Buicks”.

  4. The Lexus NX will hold its value a whole lot better than the Buick. Additionally, the NX will last much longer than any Buick.
