Brand-New 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Dale Earnhardt Edition For Sale In Indiana

Drawing inspiration from Monte Carlos of the past, the sixth-generation of the Chevy Monte Carlo was highlighted by its unique styling design, NASCAR roots, and various special edition packages. Now, we have the opportunity to purchase a like-new 2002 Chevy Monte Carlo SS Dale Earnhardt Edition that’s recently been listed for sale.

Also known as the Intimidator Edition thanks to its connection to NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Sr., this 2002 Monte Carlo SS has been posted for sale in Indiana, Philadelphia. With just 20 miles on the odometer, this coupe appears to be in brand-new condition.

Starting with the exterior, this Dale Earnhardt Edition stands apart from the rest of the Monte Carlo lineup due to a black paint job that features galaxy silver rocker panels, black ground effects, front and rear air dams, and a thin red stripe above the silver ground effects. Positioned just behind the side-rear windows is a Dale Number 3 logo, which is underlined by Earnhardt’s signature.

Moreover, there are silver Intimidator SS badges found on the right side of the rear trunk, along with “regular” Monte Carlo badges just in front of the rear tires. Speaking of rollers, the Dale Earnhardt Edition rides on unique five-spoke diamond-cut wheels.

Moving to the inside, the interior features an Intimidator badge with another Number 3 logo on the dash, while Earnhardt’s signature makes another appearance in the gauge cluster. Meanwhile, a charcoal black interior colorway adorns the leather seats.

In regard to powertrain, this 2002 Monte Carlo SS is equipped with the naturally aspirated 3.8L V6 L36 gasoline engine, rated at 200 horsepower and 225 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed to the front wheels via the GM four-speed automatic transmission.

Notably, later SS units were equipped with a supercharged V6 or a naturally aspirated V8 engine.

So, what do you think, dear reader? Is the nearly $34,000 asking price worth the legacy of Dale Earnhardt? Let us know what you think in the comments section below!

  1. Front wheel drive on a “muscle car”? I remember when a GM executive defended the first time Camaro was dropped. He said they had the Monte Carlo SS to compete with Mustang. Yeah, right and now history repeats itself.

  2. Former Chevy GM Jim Perkins fought HARD with the corporate brass to get the Monte reintroduced even on an existing midsize FWD platform.

He was really a wonderful guy and is greatly missed.

  3. Great looking car in all regards!

Can’t go wrong with Dale’s black and silver!

  4. All show and no go. I like the books but, the fwd is a joke. Want a fwd Vette or Camaro? I think not.

  5. If this car has a history (such as a purchase agreement signed by Dale himself just before his death) then it can command a price.

Otherwise it’s an interesting collector but not worth much above blue book.

    1. Theses Monte’s never held value, even special editions. It’s only worth 5k. I know only so many were made. But WHT don’t they hold a high value. I just seen one at auction with 7k on it, they started out at 20k, quickly went down to 4k, then finally sold at 14k. I had the Jr. Edition, it was fun.

  6. If the mileage is true I’d give a maximum of $18,000. If it has only the decals but nothing else to relate it with the legend, not really worth more.

    1. Hello, my name is Red, I have this same car with maybe 600 actual miles. I bought the car from the original owner with 189 miles, back in 2011. Car is like new with no stories. If interested at 19,500. Thanks

  7. Also had a Tony Stewart Edition, Jeff Gordon and maybe a couple more. Like Cavalier Z24’s, Beretta Z26, Monza Spyders don’t see many around today or being restored.

  8. FWD V6 is a shame, if this had the V8 then well worth it!

  11. Sitting all these years with 20 miles? I would be concerned about dried out valve cover and intake manifold gaskets dried out and leaking

  12. That car was a POS. Basically a Chevy Lumina with pin stripes and an really ugly aero kit.

  13. I like the Chevy Monte Carlos, I have owned a few. However to command this kind of price. The car should have been rear wheel drive. Most of these end up being school cars for 1st time drivers. 16k to 18k is a better price.

  14. That business selling the Monte Carlo is on Philadelphia Street, Indiana, PA. They specialize in selling and shipping unique or different types of quality vehicles and finding them too. I am not associated with them, just know of them.

    1. I have the 2001 Limited Edition Pace Car Replica Monte Carlo. It’s pretty much the same car except for the big 3 on the sail panel and no graphics down the side. Yes the front wheel drive sucks. Mine has 22k miles on it so doesn’t get driven much.

This car is not for everyone but has a special place in History to honor a great Nascar driver.
