AWA To Field Corvette Z06 GT3.R Race Cars During 2024 IMSA Season

Andrew Wojteczko Autosport (AWA), a Toronto-based motorsports team that competes in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, confirmed that it will field two customer Corvette Z06 GT3.R race cars, beginning with the 2024 racing season.

The Corvette Z06 GT3.R race cars will compete in the GT Daytona (GTD) class, a shift from the team’s current stable of Duqueine D08 chassis competing in the Le Mans Daytona Prototype 3 (LMP3) class, which it has been racing for the past two seasons. The decision to field Corvette machines comes as a result of year-long negotiations between Andrew Wojteczko, AWA team owner and technical director, and Corvette Racing via Pratt Miller Motorsports leadership.

“We had our first conversations last year in Canada [at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park] with Corvette and General Motors to plot the path forward,” Wojteczko said in a statement. “For that to come together to the announcement is very rewarding, and for us, very exciting to be a part of.”

Christie Bagne, Corvette Z06 GT3.R program manager, stated, “We are happy to welcome AWA to the Corvette Racing family. It was important for us to select a highly competitive and collaborative team to be our first representative in the WeatherTech Championship’s GTD class. AWA is a fantastic choice. The team has a proven capability of winning races in multiple sports car categories and series. Our goal is to help AWA compete for championships and race wins with the Z06 GT3.R in 2024 and beyond.”

As a reminder, GM recently announced that it would back away from its factory racing efforts in favor of a customer-driven motorsports model. The automaker expects eight Corvette Z06 race cars will compete in IMSA next year, with at least four representing full-time GTD Pro and GTD class entries. GM also expects to take up two entries in the new LMGT3 division.

  4. I hope they are able to emulate the success and professionalism of the factory pit teams and strategists. Drivers say it makes all the difference in every race. There is no reason they can’t, but I looked forward to seeing that. Pa’lante Corvettesss.
