2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Revealed, With No Direct GM Rival

The Land Cruiser is headed back to North America after a three-year hiatus, once again framed as a “durable off-roader” SUV offered at a more accessible price point. The new 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is equipped as standard with a hybrid turbocharged four-cylinder engine and a list of off-road-oriented equipment. At present, GM offers no direct rival to the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser.

In terms of exterior dimensions, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruise is 4.4 inches narrower and 1.2 inches shorter than the previous 200 Series model, while the design mixes elements of previous Land Cruiser models with a modern touch. Toyota will offer enthusiasts the First Edition grade, which will be limited to 5,000 units in North America and is equipped with round heritage-style LED headlights, new two-tone paint colors, a roof rack, rock rails, and an exclusive cabin design.

Speaking of the cabin, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser offers an available 12.3-inch touchscreen equipped with the latest Toyota Audio Multimedia system, as well as the Multi Terrain Monitor. The Toyota Safety Sense 3.0 system is equipped as standard across the range.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser offers a single engine option, namely Toyota’s turbocharged 2.4L I4 I-Force Max hybrid, rated at 326 horsepower and 465 pound-feet of torque. Highlights include a 48-horsepower electric motor integrated with the eight-speed automatic transmission and juiced by a 1.87-kWh NiMH battery. Full-time four-wheel drive is standard, as is a center locking differential and electronically controlled two-speed transfer case, vehicle stability control, an automatic limited-slip differential, and an electronic locking rear differential. A tow hitch is also standard, while max towing is rated at 6,000 pounds.

Built on top of the TNGA-F global truck platform with a ladder frame design, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser is more rigid than the 200 Series. The suspension setup includes double wishbones in front with twin-tube shocks, plus a multi-link rear with coil springs. There’s also electric power steering, while all models run 17-inch disc brakes at all four corners. A new front stabilizer bar disconnect system is offered as well. Approach angle is rated at 31.0 degrees, max departure is 22.0 degrees, and breakover angle is 25.0 degrees, while ground clearance is 8.7 inches.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will start in the mid-$50,000 range. More exact pricing information will be released closer to the on-sale date. Look for the new Land Cruiser to arrive in U.S. dealers in the spring of the 2024 calendar year.

  1. GM, it won’t be that hard. Just give us an SUV version of the Colorado or Canyon. No differentiation needed.

    1. Love this idea, especially since they have the AT series.

    2. Going back to a midsize, BOF, pickup derived SUV. I love the idea too but unfortunately it’ll never happen at the new gm.

  4. landcruiser was supposed to be a timeless machine that never aged design wise. this thing is made to look aged in 5 years. total hipster mobile

    1. It was actually designed to recapture the look of it’s Early 1980’s Predecessor. It will hold up well in the eyes of those who understood the direction of this design theme.

  5. Wowwwww, this vehicle looks cheap by the looks of the exterior and interior.

This vehicle was $80K on the 200 series and now has a $50K introduction price which is a major reduction for this new model. Sounds like Toyota mismanaged the previous Land Cruiser and was not satisfied with the sales results because the high flagship asking price and decided to rethink the Land Cruiser should stand for this time around as an affordable utilitarian offroader.

  6. Looks cool and has great specs, but where does this repositioning leave the 4Runner?

    1. That was my thought as well, a 4 Runner is already $50K, so is this a replacement?

Does the 4 Runner become a more car like SUV now?

I’m not getting the logic here, and it its kinda ugly too, like a Defender and a Bronco has sex and that offspring was ordered from Temu…..

      1. Agree with both of you guys. This thing looks like a butched-up 4 Runner to me…and not a good one.

As I’ve said previously, I’ve never cared much for anything that’s come out of their Calty Design Studio and I’d bet money they’re responsible for this thing.

  8. GM has never had an answer for the Wrangler of Bronco. I don’t even consider foreign makes.

  9. The new Land Cruiser is the best looking SUV and better than that is you wont be on a first name basis with the service center employees if you buy one.

    1. Is Toyota still selling 80’s and 90’s versions of their vehicles? But these new ones don’t have the same reliability you are hinting at…

  10. Plastic fantastic for $50K isn’t going to cut it no matter how much you love Toyota. This thing is going to be passed up for the GX/LX corporate cousins, unless someone is that desperate for nostalgia.

    1. Plastic fantastic? Coming from GM? Yeah sit down.

  11. 17 inch disc brakes? Wow, that is massive. I thought that was a misprint until I looked it up and saw the same on some other sites.

  12. You do realize Toyota has been falling in the reliability ratings for the past few decades right? This isn’t the 80’s and 90’s, they are pretty much on a level playing field with most other manufacturers. Nice try though…

  13. If GM brought the body-on-frame Trailblazer version from South America…it would be on the same playing fields as this

  14. Should have saved the Blazer name for something like this, but no, they had to create a lookalike midsized crossover and called it a Blazer.

  15. While I would love for Chevy to have a 4-Runner/Land Cruiser type vehicle (as well as a Bronco/Wrangler) I just think that the new Land Cruiser is a complete DUD. Nothing compelling about it at all. Exterior is lame and boring and interior is awful as well.
Why would anyone chose this over a Jeep Grand Cherokee?

    Reply
    1. Because if you buy the new Land Cruiser you won’t be on a first name basis with the service center employees.

That thing is hideous……at least your vehicle will look good while hoisted up at the service center Lol

      2. how do you know? this is not a landcruiser. this is some abomination and the powertrain looks absolutely horrifying. forced hybrid with a battery… yeah buddy. what could go wrong there

      3. Assuming your frame doesn’t rust out, airbags dont explode spontaneously, and gas pedals dont stick. Toyota never really has been that reliable. They just didnt have those bad years of the 80’s or early 2K

  17. Add dealer mark up s and the 2nd party resale dealers who will try to buy them up to flip. same with the Lexus Gx550 . maybe the the new designs will be more shoe box easy to see out of, no blind spots the Santa Fe is more boxey. Easier to see out of the back of a box over low roof
