Just days after officially unveiling the model in the Asian country, General Motors has just launched the new 2024 Buick Encore Plus as the brand’s entry-level crossover in China.
SAIC-GM launched the all-new 2024 Buick Encore Plus in the Chinese domestic market, ushering in a notable shakeup in the Tri-Shield brand’s broad portfolio of crossovers. Unlike its previous positioning as the Encore GX, the 2024 Encore Plus goes on sale as the new entry-level model in Buick’s local utility lineup, replacing the regular second-gen Encore and being priced below the all-new Buick Envista.
This confirms that the strategy behind the new 2024 Buick Encore Plus goes beyond a simple suffix change from GX to Plus, but rather represents a repositioning that seeks to give the model a new impetus in China – where it was introduced for the first time as the upscale variant of the Encore family. As such, the Encore Plus receives a new powertrain configuration and a substantially lower price.
In particular, the 2024 Buick Encore Plus is launched with two of the brand’s new trim levels in the country, called Enjoy and Smart. Both finishes come standard with a complete package of technology and safety features and even introduces a new driver assistance system called eCruise that makes it one of the most advanced entry-level crossovers on the market.
The powertrain is one of the biggest new features of the 2024 Buick Encore Plus, adopting a new turbocharged 1.5L I4 engine that develops a class-leading 135 kW or 181 horsepower and 250 Nm or 184 pound-feet of torque, mated to a continuously variable automatic transmission. It also includes a recalibrated chassis and a Sport mode for more agile handling, with a front-wheel drivetrain at least in its two initial variants.
The new 2024 Buick Encore Plus is now available for sale at Buick’s official dealer network in China, where it is manufactured exclusively for that country at the GM Dong Yue plant. The 2024 Encore Plus’ surprise is its aggressive positioning, priced well below the previous Encore GX, as well as the Envista and outgoing Encore, making it the most affordable crossover in Buick history. - 2024 Encore Plus Enjoy: 126,900 yuan (about $17,440 USD at current exchange rates)
- 2024 Encore Plus Smart: 136,900 yuan ($18,820 USD)

China haters ought to realize that if it wasn’t for Buick’s popularity in that country, Buick would have been long gone alongside its deceased sister brands Oldsmobile and Pontiac.
Get over it. Today’s auto industry is multi-national, and I for one am happy that Buick is bringing profits from China back to GM’s headquarters in Detroit Michigan, USA.
China has help saved GM. With Europe and Australia gone China is GM’s only other profit center and, more importantly, helps achieve scale and higher quality. J/Vs reduce profit, Stellantis is lucky to have Europe instead of China–especially with the geopolitical problems and rise of domestic brands.
In Chima GM built something special with Bui CV k. I’m convinced these cars…especially Electras…would do well in Europe and be a great global brand for GM. No one ever considers this but Buick is a blank ssd late as opposed to Chevrolet.

Sat in one last week at my New Jersey Buick dealer. AWESOME…they are gonna sell boatloads of them! Size was great, lower and small-ish but not tiny, very up-level interior, with that amazing new dash. The vehicle is quite attractive and the new Buick design language looks fabulous. Go see, go buy!
