2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup Gets New Afterburner Tintcoat Color: First Look

The 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup adds six new exterior colors to its palette: Supernova Metallic, Deep Aurora Metallic, Tide Metallic, Void Black, Meteorite Metallic, and Afterburner Tintcoat. Here’s our first look at the new Orange hue.

Assigned RPO code GC5 and touch-up paint code WA-625G, Afterburner Tintcoat is one of seven exterior colors offered on the all-electric off-road supertruck, each carrying a space-themed name, which include:

  • Interstellar White
  • Meteorite Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Void Black (new for 2023)
  • Tide Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Deep Aurora Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Supernova Metallic (new for 2023)
  • Afterburner Tintcoat (new for 2023)

The Afterburner Tintcoat color is an extra-cost item that adds $1,225 to the truck’s price. It is available on the 3X trim level and can be combined with all available interior colorways.

For reference, here are the two available interior colorways offered on the 2023 Hummer EV Pickup:

  • Lunar Horizon (Jet Black/Light Grey)
  • Lunar Shadow (Jet Black/Taupe)

The 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup continues with the limited-run Edition 1 from the 2022 debut year plus a new 3X trim level.

Besides the revolutionary four-wheel steering CrabWalk mode, other standout features for the pickup include adaptive air suspension, Extract Mode, Terrain Mode with one-pedal driving, UltraVision cameras, Extreme Off-Road Package, Off-Road Readiness Package, Bronze Beadlock Package, Sport Package, the vaunted GM Super Cruise semi-autonomous driver assist system, and more. Front and rear recovery hooks are also installed, as is a soft roll-up tonneau cover, spray on bed liner, and the GMC MultiPro tailgate. However, the 2023 model loses the Sky Convertible Top.

Slotting below the Edition 1, the 3X trim offers prospective buyers more opportunity to customize the supertruck to their liking. For example, available on the 3X trim is a 3X Launch Package which bundles all the features of the Extreme Off-Road Package along with several additional items.

The 2023 GMC Hummer EV Pickup produces 1,000 horsepower and 11,500 pound-feet of wheel torque. The Watts to Freedom mode pushes the new pickup to 60 mph in just 3 seconds while towing capacity reaches up to 8,500 pounds.

As a quick reminder, the Hummer EV Pickup rides on GM’s dedicated “Ulti-body” electric GM BT1 platform, and source motivation comes from GM Ultium battery and GM Ultium Drive motor technologies. Production takes place at the GM Factory Zero plant (previously known as the GM Detroit-Hamtramck plant) in Michigan, where Hummer EV Pickup production kicked off in November 2021.

  1. Looks fantastic – significantly better than white – but will GM actually get to the point of making them? I’ve seen close to 20 Rivians already – both pickup and SUV versions – but absolutely no HUMMER EVs. It makes me wonder if GM is actually interested in manufacturing the HUMMER. I can only imagine how many of the 90,000 orders have been outright cancelled by potential buyers at this point.

    1. They keep announcing new colors, yet not producing any – I’ve seen ONE HUMMER EV and ONE Lyric this year, while Rivian R1S and R1Ts are quite common where I live.

  2. This looks like the best color on the hummer that I have seen. Absolutely love it!

  3. I guess these colors are a first look for the SUT but the same colors have been known since day one for the SUV; and yes, my future SUV will be this awesome Afterburner Tintcoat to match the Amplified Orange on my future E-Ray…

  4. Cool! What’s another $1225? Ugh.

  5. I love the Hummer and love these additional colors but I’ve yet to see a Hummer pickup that wasn’t white or a Hummer SUV that wasn’t matte green. GM is claiming they’ve actually SOLD these other colors? Finding that a little hard to believe.
