2022 Buick Enclave Heated Steering Wheel Retrofits Under Way

GM has launched a retrofit of the heated steering wheel feature (RPO code KI3) on certain units of the 2022 Buick Enclave that were built without it, with the retrofits taking place as part of Customer Satisfaction Program N222371151.

Owners of 2022 Buick Enclave units built without the heated steering wheel they were supposed to be equipped with can get it installed at dealerships free of charge as GM continues to expand the available retrofits to more models.

Some vehicles from the Essence and Premium trims of the 2022 Buick Enclave were built without the functional heated steering wheel normally equipped as a standard feature on those trim levels. The constraint resulted from the semiconductor shortage and supply chain disruptions following the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Avenir trim of the 2022 Buick Enclave also equipped the heated steering wheel as standard. However, it was shielded from the constraint affecting other trim levels and was produced with the heated steering wheel fully functional. Therefore, Avenir trim vehicles are not part of the current retrofit.

Essence and Premium units built without the feature were produced between December 6th, 2021 and March 27th, 2022. All affected 2022 Buick Enclave units are indicated as such by the RPO code 00G printed on their window sticker.

The constraint on the heated steering wheel feature affected other Buick models produced during the same approximate timeframe. Availability of the steering wheel was limited for certain units of the  Buick Encore GX and Buick Envision as well.

The only model unaffected by the constraint was the entry-level Buick Encore, which didn’t offer the option on any of its trim levels.

The constraint on heated steering wheels for the 2022 Buick Enclave was lifted as of production starting March 28th. However, while freed from this constraint, the Enclave continued to be produced with some features unavailable after that date, including heated and ventilated seats, power-folding third-row seating, and front and rear park assist.

The current retrofit program for the heated steering wheel in the 2022 Buick Enclave instructs dealers to replace the steering wheel assembly at no charge to owners of affected units. The fix restores normal function to the heated steering wheel.

Owners of affected 2022 Buick Enclave units were informed at the time of purchase about the heated steering wheel constraint and future availability of a retrofit.
