What Is This Mysterious Chevy Electric Crossover Sedan?

GM’s social media team recently published a video providing an inside look at the GM China Advanced Design Studio, showing off the recently expanded space and some of the projects that employees are working on there. In the video, a wide variety of concepts are on display, including an odd-looking Chevy vehicle with a striking orange paint job. The question – what the heck is this mysterious new Chevy?

A Chevrolet badge.

The vehicle is question is spotted about half way through the video, just after the camera flies through the gull-winged Buick Proxima Design Concept. The vehicle is surrounded by large lighting fixtures, while a track for a video camera rings around half of the vehicle. A camera crew is seen shooting some footage, tracking around the sides and front three-quarters of the bright orange Chevy.

The vehicle itself has a somewhat unusual design. The profile shows a crossover / sedan shape, with a flat roof section that kinks at hard angles around the A-pillar and C-pillar. The lower half of the body appears to show a sort of two-tone treatment with black bits offsetting the bright orange paint. The wheels are finished in black as well, as are the sideview mirror stalks, the window surrounds, and other trim pieces.

The front end of this Chevy shows off the classic Bow Tie badge front and center. However, the badge is illuminated, connecting lighting elements that are drawn out in thin signatures running the width of the front fascia. In the corners of the fascia, the headlights show sharp, checkmark shapes that continue into the lower bumper sections with blacked-out indents.

All told, it isn’t really clear what this Chevy is. The shape of it certainly suggests it is a concept, but the way it straddles the sedan body style and a utility vehicle is a bit odd. Perhaps it’s purely a design exercise? Or maybe it’s a future production vehicle reserved exclusively for the Chinese market? Or maybe it’s some sort of global Chevy low-roof entry?

So many have complained that they can’t see out of the current Camaro so GM fixed the problem.

      1. But making the Camaro look so understated makes it a total sleeper. For all we know it could have 700 horsepower and do 0-60 in 2 seconds.

The Chevelle never had performance like that.

  7. Ah, yet another generic electric vehicle that requires a glance at the badging to determine the brand. Vehicle design has never been more intriguing…eyeroll.

My first thought was that is possibly the next generation Camaro. The design leadership at GM is…well…are they run by Disney? Determined to destroy icons?

  8. That for sure ain’t no crossover. If they label it as such, we REALLY need a crossover definition. We need one anyway…

  11. First – A total waste of time following the camera span rooms and showing people sitting at their desks. GM is paying people to do nothing. That’s why the costs continually increase.
Second – Where would one find a parking spot to park the vehicle and be able to actually get in or out. Most Towns and cities, private parking lots, and shopping malls are designing small parking spaces.
