Spanning a single generation over a majority of the 1980s, the Chevy Celebrity was the successor to the fourth-generation Chevy Malibu, and was positioned as a midsize vehicle. Today, we’re taking a closer look at this well-kept 1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport coupe that’s recently been listed for sale online.
Posted for sale on cars.com, this 1988 Celebrity appears to be in fantastic shape, with less than 43,000 miles on the odometer. According to a Carfax report, this 80s Bow Tie coupe features a clean title, and has never been damaged or been involved in an accident.
It’s worth noting that the Celebrity was offered in sedan, coupe and wagon variants.
As a Eurosport trim level, this Celebrity has a few cosmetic and performance upgrades as compared to the base trim. Originally introduced in 1984 as an option package, Eurosport models are distinguished by black window trim and red elements. Under the hood lies the naturally aspirated 2.8L V6 LB6 gasoline engine, which was rated at 125 horsepower and 160 pound-feet of torque when new.
Further Eurosport features include heavy-duty F41 suspension, a black steering wheel, and 14-inch Sport Rally wheels (the wheels later became an option for all Celebrity sedans and wagons).
As for the interior, the Celebrity Eurosport received model-specific red emblems on the door panels and dashboard.
Notably, General Motors later revealed the Celebrity Eurosport VR limited edition package, which itself was based on the 1986 Chevy Eurosport RS concept car. Converted out-of-house, these special-edition Celebrity units were fitted with ground effects, body decals, a blacked-out grille, and aluminum wheels. Production was limited to the 1987 and 1988 model years, while only red, silver, black and white paint colors were offered.
With an asking price of less than $7,000, what do you think? Is this clean 1988 Chevy Celebrity Eurosport coupe worth the price? Let us know in the comment section below!

GM needs to bring back jobs to the USA and quit sending work overseas to countries we are in conflict in. Seems like the only car manufacturer in the USA are foreign counties.
Labor is a small percentage of the cost of avehicle.
Profits are even a smaller part of the over all cost of a car.
union cost of pay and benefits are a major part of the cars cost.
Destroying the middle class and sending the jobs to countries where the workers cannot afford the product their building is not a good way to increase sales.
Hello,
Would you be able to help me locate a good used Chevy Celebrity? Thank you
It’s not the UAW … It’s the cost of living in this country is out of control… When $80,000 or $90,000 a year isn’t enough for one person something is WRONG! My house costes $170,000 to buy I. 2016 now a Tahoe, Suburban, Corvette, Expedition costs almost as much if not more then my house I mean that’s just INSANE! Our system of bigger is better falling apart… It was one thing the 1950s when things where a little cheaper and AMERICAN business where encouraged to build factory’s and have workers with a good. UNION JOB… don’t blame us … Blame this new Roman empire we are forced to live in!
Based upon what cars cost new in today’s world, I’d say this low-mileage car is a bargain.
Had a 1986 Eurosport wagon. Was great with a new born baby! Would have preferred a rwd but not a bad car. Sister had a 4-door version,
I love these articles about old cars for sale. Thanks for putting them on here and please keep them coming.
This car for around or under 7 grand is a great buy. Low miles and relatively nice condition. The only thing I’d say is the seller really needs to learn how to correctly detail a car. From the pics I saw, it looks like a kid hand washed it and forgot to properly dry it. Then just hit the floors with the vac and called it a day. Never ceases to amaze me how lazy people are when they are trying to sell something.
Not sporty and no celebrities bought them. stay away parts very hard to find.
I bought a Eurosport wagon brand new. Had it for years and it was a good car. We lived in the mountains and it handled well. With a good set of studded snows, it did well in winter too.
What parts are hard to find? Everything is available at Box auto parts stores.
We bought police-package Celebrities in the mid-80’s to use as police cars. Without a doubt, this was the worst police car I’d ever driven. These were allegedly deemed to be the police car of the future. Thank God that didn’t come true. The maintenance costs were much higher than the larger Impala’s, the top end wasn’t much over 80, the front end parts constantly broke when cars were put under the stress that police use requires, back-seat spacing was way too small. I could go on and on. I guess as a general use car, it might have been okay, but I wouldn’t have bought one for myself. I don’t think any of ours lasted much over 90K, and they didn’t hold up very well in crashes. I do have to say they handled well in the snow with their front wheel drive, but that’s about the only good thing I can say about them.
IOW they were great for parking enforcement? 🙂
Yeah and gack, a Celebrity was a commuter not a police cruiser. Esp. when the Impala and Caprice were around.
Dan that’s a first for me I have never seen a celebrity police car… They really weren’t built for that though.
Yeah, quite a few agencies used them in the DC area. Chevy marketed them as police cars. They were junk.
Good enough cars for their time, but I wouldn’t want to be in an accident with one today!
Family had a couple with the “iron duke” 4-cyls and the things ran forever.
This should really be in the $1850.00 category. No higher then that.
I had an 85 and an 88 Celebrity , both were great cars for my young family.
It’s a great car and imagine what can be done with the money saved over buying new. A cruise to Europe for a month or two to be sure. Something enjoyable anyway.
I would buy this car jus to go to work in it’s probably pretty good on gas and it’s neat looking overall nice car nice price! 👍🏻
That’s my car now 😉
Nicely kept ! I had an ‘84 Eurosport in all black w / oyster white interior. 2 door coupe with magnesium cast wheels. Added an ‘86 firebird wing to the trunk and it was a stunner for that era. I miss that ride !
