Some 2019 GMC Savana Units Get Extended Catalytic Converter Warranty Coverage

Due to concerns over a potentially fractured catalytic converter, General Motors has issued an extended catalytic converter warranty period for some units of the 2019 GMC Savana.

Select units of the 2019 GMC Savana and 2019 Chevy Express may have a condition where the left inlet pipe of the catalytic converter fractures. If this were to occur, affected units could have an increase an engine tone, and the Malfunction Indicator Light – or the Check Engine Light – may illuminate and set a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

The 2019 GMC Savana looks similar to this 2016 units.

As a result, General Motors will extend the warranty coverage on affected vehicles from 5 years or 50,000 miles (whichever comes first) to a period of 15 years or 150,000 miles (whichever comes first) from the date the vehicle was originally placed into service.

It’s worth noting that owners who paid for the repair service themselves may be eligible for reimbursement. In addition, if the catalytic converter were to become fractured, GM certified technicians will replace the emissions equipment as necessary, free of charge.

As a reminder, Big Red’s van is offered in multiple configurations, including the GMC Savana Cargo, the GMC Savana Passenger and the GMC Savana Cutaway, all of which are designed to fill a specific role. Powerplant options include the naturally aspirated 4.3L V6 LV1 gasoline engine, rated at 276 horsepower and 298 pound-feet of torque, and naturally aspirated 6.6L V8 L8T gasoline engine, rated at 401 horsepower and 464 pound-feet of torque. Notably, the 2.8L I4 LWN turbodiesel Duramax engine was dropped for the 2023 model year, as GM Authority covered previously.

In regard to structure, the Savana rides on the GMT 610 platform, while production kicked off at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri on August 15th, 2022. Notably, the Savana Cutaway is also produced by Navistar at a separate facility in Ohio.
