No. 7 NASCAR Chevy Falls Short In Xfinity Chicago Streets: Video

The No. 7 NASCAR Chevy Camaro of Justin Allgaier was quick during the inaugural Xfinity Series Chicago street race on July 1st, 2023, but not quick enough to get around the No. 00 Ford Mustang of Cole Custer when the race was called due to weather just short of halfway.
Ultimately, Allgaier’s No. 7 NASCAR Chevy would finish third, tailing Custer’s No. 00 Mustang and John Hunter Nemecheck’s No. 20 Toyota TRD Supra in second. He ran out of laps, though, as the rain came pouring down before the completion of Stage 2, prompting NASCAR to halt its activity. Initially, the race was to be postponed until Sunday, but in the interest of getting the Cup Series under way, NASCAR elected to halt the event completely.
In a statement, NASCAR said, “With standing water and flooding a significant issue at the race track and throughout the city, there was no option to return to racing prior to shifting to NASCAR Cup Series race operations. Throughout the entire planning process for the Chicago Street Race, our relationship with the City of Chicago has been strong and among the most valuable assets in reaching this historic weekend.”
The statement continued, “In the spirit of that partnership, returning on Monday for the completion of a NASCAR Xfinity Series event two laps short of halfway was an option we chose not to employ. Based on several unprecedented circumstances, NASCAR has made the decision to declare Cole Custer the winner of the race.”

That track and race was a joke! Once again Nascar made a fool of itself. The people of Chicago came out to see a dud of a race. Not much passing just follow the leader. You could only see maybe 100-300 ft of the race from the temporary seating. If there was a pass or crash you probably missed it. The only way to watch was on TV. I’ve been to a couple dozen Nascar races over the years and was very disappointed. Then they canceled more than 1/2 of the race!!! Total bush-league! You suck Nascar!
