A month after images of the next-generation compact crossover first leaked in China, photos of the sporty 2025 Chevy Equinox RS variant have just leaked in the Asian country.
Images of the next-gen 2025 Chevy Equinox RS has been leaked by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, which once again released SAIC-GM’s future product statement of the upcoming Equinox ahead of the automaker’s official debut. Last time, we saw the 2025 Equinox in a base trim, and now, we get to preview the sporty looking RS trim level.
The new leaked photos notably show that the 2025 Chevy Equinox RS accentuates the rugged design of the upcoming crossover’s high-stance body and muscular lines, with styling cues befitting Chevrolet’s sporty trim level. These include the more radical mesh grille treatment, black Bow Tie, blacked-out overall finish, and larger two-tone alloy wheels.
All of these cosmetic tweaks enhance the upcoming 2025 Chevy Equinox RS’ visual appeal, which, as the images reveal, will be available with a contrasting black roof. The rear end of the 2025 Equinox RS remains largely identical to the base version with the exception of minor changes such as blacked-out emblems and a red RS badge.
Mechanically, the 2025 Chevy Equinox RS for the Chinese market will come standard with the turbocharged 2.0L LXH I4 engine rated at 169 kW or 227 horsepower, mated exclusively to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission. As such, this powertrain option ranks above the 132 kW or 177-horsepower 1.5L engine that will equip the base variants.
The next-gen 2025 Chevy Equinox is expected to make its global debut in the coming months, possibly in North America, which is the crossover’s top global volume market. The new 2025 Equinox rides on an updated variant of the current model’s GM D2 platform, with a nearly identical 107.5-inch wheelbase. Overall length, width and height are pegged at 183.2 inches, 74.9 inches and 67.5 inches, respectively.

Turbocharged 2.0L LXH I4 engine, 227 horsepower, nine-speed automatic transmission.
It’s not as good as the older 2.0 turbo, but it beats the 175hp motor any day.
optiq again ? well… at this the outer mirror at least is corrected placed… but the rest…. omg
In this article, the writer used the word “Sporty” exactly 3 times as well as the word “muscular” once.
There is NOTHING sporty or muscular about this box. Nor about any of the billion boxes GM and the rest of the manufacturers are pushing. Good lord, what writers and advertisers will do to con people into something.
This looks just like all the rest of them Boring, bland and ugly.
I need rich rebuilds to la swap one of these. Thatll spice it up a bit
What the hell r u mean ‘Sporty’? Do you think only hardcore sports cars like Corvettes are sporty??? Look at Equinox rivals like CR-V, Rogue, and Tiguan. Equinox looks sporty in this picture compared to those boring lumps.
Oc, did you actually just infer that the CR-V, Rogue and Tiguan are sporty? Or even remotely sporty? Man, if that’s what you are saying, then I feel so badly for you.
You must have a lot of boxes that you carry around.
You seem to have severe dyslexia… You don’t understand the meaning of the sentence at all lol
I think you nailed it with the “looks sporty” comment with looks being the operative word. They may look sporty, but are they really sporty in a performance sense? No…they aren’t. GM has reduced the RS trim to an expensive wheels/black badging/appearance package. Need Examples? Blazer RS–appearance. Traverse RS–appearance. Equinox RS–appearance. Trax RS–appearance. Silverado RST–appearance. Camaro RS–appearance. None of these models are really any more powerful than the lower trim versions. When I think sporty SUV’s, the first models that come to mind are not the Equinox or Traverse. I’m thinking Durango SRT/Hellcat, Explorer ST, Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT, Lambo Urus Performante…those are some sporty SUV’s with muscle to back up their looks. The rest are just boring boxes with black wheels.
Well, except… look at Rally Sports of the 1970’s… the package was always about appearance only. The only difference between then and now, perhaps, was the ability to order a variety of engines back in the day, you had to ORDER a high-po engine in your Rally Sport Camaro or Nova back in the day if you wanted performance with the sporty looks. By the time a Cavalier RS showed up, that ability was gone. Strictly appearance when stood on its own, then and now.
The new Traverse probably is a larger version of this.
I was thinking same thing. It’s like Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L with Equinox and Traverse. I guess with tweeners like Blazer & Trax that Chevy can afford to skimp on design with what have for 2 generations very different vehicles.
Simcoe has moved Chevy design in the right direction with every vehicle sharing a fam resemblance.
This looks excellent, especially compared to the current Equinox. The current version looks like the most basic granny crossover on the market. This new version actually has some body lines. Too bad I bought a new Blazer in October or I would probably pick on up. The size of the Equinox is perfect for me, I just absolutely despise the boring, dated version that is out now.
The newer version is ugly the front bumper looks to square chevy this looks like a blazer the engineers make the whole thing ugly Looks older than the current equinox that looks way better.
I like it a good bit better than the current version. However, it reminds me of a mimic of what Nissan did with the Rogue. Rogue was soft and and anonymous, now it’s squared up, butched up and gone all techno in looks… EXACTLY how the Equinox is going, a few years in the future. Also, it has the “detached” C-pillar look of the Pathfinder. Very derivative. Once last thing, why does every new gm CUV need “crying” taillights? If they wanted to intro a crying taillight, they should have put it on one division or another to distinguish them… not EVERY gm brand. That just dilutes the idea. I do want to see the Equinox Activ.
I do like the shark fin antenna, it is much less prone to damage than a roof-mounted whip antenna, and it looks cleaner. I wish they’d put a shark fin on the Colorado/Canyon to alleviate the garage-ability issue. Trailblazer and Trax could also benefit, just for looks and damage control.
It’s certainly more masculine, something that the current one is far from (standard roof rails would have helped a bit), but not that big of a change. I’m betting that the current 1.5L will soldier on, with the 2.0L returning, since the Escape offers one.
The sooner this is revealed, the sooner incentives on the current one will skyrocket. I want the current one (RS) but the warranty on my current ride goes thru 9/24 and I’m not inclined to trade until then. Incentives on the new one will be zilch for several years. Exact same thing happened in 2017 and I decided to go with Ford because the new Nox (2018) was already overtaking the lots. Lousy timing, again.
I like the look of this a lot, more squared up , the trim on the wheel arches and the higher height of the rear roof. The overall shape mimics the Trailblazer. This is a very nice improvement.
I have a current 2020 Midnight with the 2.0l and 9 speed. Its a great vehicle, but may be tempted to get one of these or the next gen Terrain.
Would really like to see what the Activ trim brings
I think GM is hitting their stride with the newer designs, Trax, Trailblazer, Colorado, EV Equinox , EV Blazer , FS Trucks & SUVs, The new Caddies and Buicks, Encore GX, Envista, Liriq, etc.
Hope they have a next Gen Malibu like the media has reported
Now if they can ramp up production and get some inventory on the lots it would be a big help to consumers instead of ordering a vehicle and waiting 6-8 months ! People want to buy these new products , but here in Canada dealer lots are empty unless you want a FS truck
It is so wrong China can get the 2 ltr and we are stuck with a 1.5 ltr. Come on Chevy
Well this is a surprise, it does get the 2.0L turbo, for China! The question is; will the 2025 North American market Equinox RS also get the 2.0L turbo? The Chinese Seeker/Trax gets a 181hp 1.5L turbo but the North American Trax does not, so Im not so sure the NA Equinox will get the 2.0L turbo. Lets hope for the best.
It would only make since for them to have the 2.0L if they want to stay competitive, the 1.5 alone just one cut it for the American consumers, overall, the look is good and I’m glad to see the boring Light Bar look is not dominating the Front-End design of this SUV.
Would be nice if the uplevel powertrain was a detuned version of the 2.5T just announced for the Traverse…should have no trouble at all eclipsing the power of the previous 2.0T, and competitive if they can keep it north of 250-hp.
I think GM nailed it with this new Equinox. I love the Blazer like front and the beefier rugged looks. I hope we get the 2.0 liter option again. Too bad GM still refuses to offwe a hybrid option. So much for the North American reveal.
The revised Traverse looks just as good also, that only tells me that gm will hit yet another home run once the revised Tahoe and Suburban gets revealed later on.
Steve I agree this new 2025 Equinox looks good it reminds me more of an SUV then a CUV I think it looks great as long as they offer a 2.0t or other upgraded engine. As for hybrids the only company that really sells them is Toyota… If you don’t mind paying $50,000 or more for a RAV4 that’s approaching Lexus money even the Honda CRV is just fine with just a 4 cylinder engine hybrid and if they do make one I don’t see many if any at all. To me hybrid is a great idea but it’s complex and expensive to buy if they made it cheaper like the $30,000-$35,000 price of a regular equinox or RAV4 then fine count me in.
I like it. The c-pillar design looks so much better on the new Equinox than it does on the new Traverse.
When we first saw the leaked ’25 Equinox here, I picked on it because of the “disconnected” C-pillar that reminded me of the current Pathfinder. Then I remembered… the current Trailblazer has the same feature, and it went on sale BEFORE the Nissan. So I stand corrected. The Trailblazer was the trailblazer with this feature.
I like the new style however, the grill on the RS looks like a Toyota/KIA/Hunyadi,,,butt ugly!!!!!!
It’s a grocery getter, period. I’ve had seven Equinox’s and they have all been “nice” vehicles. They are not sporty. They do ride and handle well, get decent mileage, and serve my needs. The 2.0 I had was fun to drive but I didn’t like buying premium fuel to run it. The older 4 cylinder in the earlier vehicles was actually a death traps. They didn’t have enough power to blend with traffic. Sporty is a Camaro or A Corvette.
At times though I get tired of swapping vehicles to just change the color. I’m getting really tired of black seats.
@Dennis on the contrary I like putting super unleaded in my 2.0T it runs better and the fuel mileage went up a little bit… Also in the long run it’s better for the engine. I also don’t think my car is ugly
