Lego Launches 1961 Chevy Corvette

There are plenty of Chevy Corvette fans out there that dream about parking a gorgeous C1 in their driveway. Alternatively, fans can put the first-gen sports car on their bookshelf with this new 1961 Chevy Corvette kit from Lego. The new Corvette Lego kit will launch next month.

A new 1961 Chevy Corvette kit from Lego.

The new Chevy Corvette kit hails from the Lego Icons series, and is designed for adult builders. It’s also a relatively big model, including 1,210 pieces, and measuring over 4 inches (10 cm) in height, 5.5 inches (14 cm) in width, and 12.5 inches (32 cm) in length.

As one might expect, the model is highly detailed as well, and includes a fantastic recreation of the original 1961 Chevy Corvette design, all done in Lego bricks. The exterior is finished in Roman Red with a white side cove, presenting the classic look of the C1 from every angle. Four rounded headlights are up front, matched with four rounded taillights in the rear, while the roof is also removable, providing an in-depth look at the interior.

Checking over the cabin, we find a steering wheel, pedals, gear shifter, radio, window crank, rearview mirror, and a gauge cluster. You can also pop the trunk, as well as the hood, the latter of which opens to reveal the engine, complete with Corvette-branded valve covers.

Further details include three license plates, including a Michigan plate (“GM 0937”), a California plate (“C1 1961”), and a Corvette-branded plate with the crossed-flags logo, while the working tie-rod steering turns the front wheels through the steering wheel. What’s more, the radiator fan spins.

Even the box is handsome, with images of the completed model, complete with official Chevrolet branding. Put it all together, and you have a lovely display piece for any classic Corvette aficionado.

Pricing for the kit is set at $149.99, per Lego’s website. The kit will launch August 1st, 2023 via VIP Early Access. The kit is tagged with Item number 10321.

  2. Owned a ’61 from ’64 through ’78. The Lego kit is ghastly. I will not be buying one, and I’ll instruct my family not to buy one for me, as well.
