Images Of Next-Gen 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ Leaked In China

In recent weeks, images of the next-gen Chevy Equinox have leaked several times in China – first in the crossover’s basic variant and then in the sporty looking RS trim. As if those weren’t enough, pictures of the 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ are now also leaking in the Asian country.

The upcoming 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ has come to light for the first time via a leak from the SAIC-GM joint venture’s official future product statement in China, which has been released by the country’s authorities before the automaker announced the rugged new version of Chevrolet‘s compact crossover. As usual, the leaked data of the 2025 Equinox Activ includes exterior photos and the technical sheet.

This leak confirms GM Authority‘s exclusive report released late last year, anticipating that the next-gen Chevy Equinox would get an Activ trim level to expand the brand’s lineup of active lifestyle crossover editions. As such, the 2025 Chevy Equinox will join the current Chevy Trailblazer and all-new Chevy Trax as the third utility vehicle to adopt the Activ trim.

Notably, the first images of the upcoming 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ show significant design differences from the base and RS trim levels. The 2025 Equinox Activ adopts a specific fascia design that includes a more prominent grille with new end shapes, air scoops, and mesh pattern, wrapped in a gloss black frame that’s matched to a rugged-looking bumper.

The 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ’s rear section also gets cosmetic upgrades to the lower part of the bumper, with a satin gray molding that simulates a metal guard, along with Activ badging. In addition, the AWD badge indicates that the Equinox Activ comes standard with an all-wheel drivetrain and the most potent powertrain, consisting of the 227-horsepower turbocharged 2.0L I4 LXH engine mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission.

The next-gen 2025 Chevy Equinox Activ is expected to make its world debut in the second half of this year, along with other versions of the totally redesigned crossover, which will be built and marketed in both China and North America. The adventurous variant of the fourth-generation Equinox will introduce enhanced off-road capabilities for the first time in the crossover, including 17-inch wheels wrapped in optional all-terrain tires.

    GM is kickin’ it.

    1. Nox has grown up with a confident stance inspired by Tahoe. Looks like a SUV not CUV. Chevrolet Nox is currently femme like CR-V. This Nox stands tall like last Jeep Cherokee and would be expected in GMC.
I saw this vehicle in a video and they said it was new Traverse. That or there is a fam resemble.
Simcoe is reinventing Chevy. This Equinox might be better than Blazer.

    2. Well they are no where to be found in small truck compact market in the US…

  2. Looks neat and it has the 2.0l with a 9-speed transmission. No complaints.

  3. Yes, now we’re talking! Very nice aggressive front design to match the Activ trim package, I like it! A little better than the RS fascia and much better looking than the LT trim shown earlier. However the question again is; what engine or engines will power this very important compact crossover? Since the new Traverse gets the 2.5l turbo as its single powerplant, I may have to change my previous opinion that the Equinox wouldn’t get the 2.0l turbo. Now I will have to concede it may get the 2.0l turbo available for the RS and Active trim and the 1.5L engine as standard. Of course lower case gm might be true to form and only offer the 1.5l turbo and 1.3l turbo. Lets hope they don’t go that route of the Trax/Seeker where the 1.5l 181hp turbo is available in Asia and other places but not in North America.

  4. I like it but, TBH, it’s not that different from the current one – everyone will know it’s an Equinox. Maybe I’ve seen it too much already…
I’ll still bet on the 1.5L and 2.0L engines in the US, probably with an 8-speed. Why the 2.0L went missing is a question that I’d love to hear the answer to. Hope it’s not due to reliability issues.

    1. from the actual article above:
“Equinox Activ comes standard with an all-wheel drivetrain and the most potent powertrain, consisting of the 227-horsepower turbocharged 2.0L I4 LXH engine mated to GM’s nine-speed automatic transmission.”

      nine-speed = 9 Speed… ( haha? )

Also that 2.0 went away because it was end of life and they didn’t want to put the new 2.0 into the Equinox/Terrain since it was all new in XT4’s et al. And capacity matters as well…

      Reply
      1. 9-speed has had issues and most of the competition uses an 8-speed, so we’ll see. The new 2.0L is a downgrade (on paper) vs. the prior one, so it makes little sense. Blazer uses it so it COULD be that the 1.5L remains the sole option.

    2. the 2.0l in the 2018-2020 was more powerful and not as clean emission wise.
The 2.0l like in the Buick Envision/ XT4 was supposed to go in the refresh 2021 Nox and Terrain. The refresh got pushed to 2022 and that older version of the 2.0l was being taken out of production.
I suspect the new version was not put in the current Equinox as the new version was saved for more premium mid sizers , but now that EVs are coming their will be capacity of the new 2.0l for the Equinox and the Terrain,
Let hope it happens . I think they have a home run with the style of the 2025 Equinox!!

  5. I assume that it was stepping on the Blazer with the 2.0T version having similar performance for a cheaper price. I’m just glad to see they are giving the choice of engines again with decent design.

On another note, I’m more curious about the next generation Terrain and what it will be like compared to its corporate twin? With Cadillac supposedly getting rid of its ICE models after 2025, the Terrain could be different with GMC going bigger since the Acadia is moving back to its original position in the line up.

    Reply
    1. Getting worried that yes, because the Blazer relies on the 2.0L T, it might not go in the Nox. Maybe Terrain. Terrain won’t go larger. The Acadia went smaller (for whatever reason) for this last gen and it was apparently a mistake. The Terrain needs a D-pillar redo, eliminating that absurd rear side window. That’s the BIG issue with the Terrain (that I’d never buy because of visibility issues).

      1. The Blazer will be fine…The Envision has the same 2.0L/9spd as the Blazer, but the Blazer has the added V6 option. The Equinox will never again have a V6 (which is sad), so they won’t be cannibalizing each others’ sales even if they share the same engine. The two vehicles are not even remotely close to being the same. I have a feeling that the 1.5L ‘Nox will be the majority of sales. Based on the way GM is pricing vehicles lately, an RS or Activ model will probably be around the low $40k range (the ’19 Redline that I once had was almost $38k) which would push people towards a Blazer. People buy the Equinox because it is a cheap crossover and rental car companies fill their lots with them because they are cheap…I see way more base LS or LT Equinox’s around town than I see RS versions.

        Reply
      2. That’s what cameras, blind spot warnings, and rear view mirrors are for. Although we have a 19 Equinox, I think the Terrain is better looking. Don’t care for the front corners of the new Equinox at all.

    2. I wish that GM would get rid of a lot of the corporate twins and just focus on making one model really great. GMC should be focused on Trucks, not crossovers. With the Acadia growing for the next gen, GM will once again have 3 big 3-row crossovers (Traverse, Enclave, Acadia) and a smaller 3-row in the XT6. That is way too many of the same car. Same thing with the Yukon/Tahoe/Escalade. Chevrolet should focus on performance and crossovers. Cadillac should focus on selling cars to people who enjoy lighting money on fire. Buick should just go away completely.

      1. It’s unfortunate that a design idea like this comes along, and then EVERYBODY jumps on board so it becomes a styling cliche and no longer unique.

But this is a vast improvement over the current model with its weird bodyside lines and sharp rear corners. Plus, overall, it’s just really dull inside and out.

    2. it has the same c-pillar as the ’24 Traverse, Actually this looks also identical to the new Traverse. Not a fan of the flared c-pillar, it should be trimmed and the beltline lowered so it aligns with the rest of the vehicle. The front end is a little too busy.

Guessing it will be debuted at the upcoming Detroit auto show. It’s being reported GM (along with Ford and Stellantis) will unveil 2 new vehicles.

    1. We’re old. The younger generations are making their memories of what is now.
I agree that many of the EV’s have a “sameness” to them, many but certainly not all.
That Volvo EX30 made in China (to keep labor costs low), now has many Chinese EV’s that look
very similar to the EX30. No surprise given the Chinese are masterful at copying designs destined
for US/European vehicle sales. A big difference is EV prices Americans pay vs what Chinese pay for same
vehicle class. Many Americans buying EV’s now have higher incomes than their Chinese counterparts.
When I look at the Chevrolet Equinox EV pictures of model slated for Fall release, I see a strange vehicle with an unfinished look. The Equinox EV front end with that cheap stuck on grill is abominable. So many gaps around it. Pity. The pics of the 2025 Equinox Activ look much better. Chevrolet has only one real winner for Americans not wealthy, the Bolt. There are plenty of $65K-up EV’s. Most Americans won’t buy those. If Scandinavian’s with their oil wealth and homogenious population favor a certain model of Tesla, have at it. America is a very different place with a very fragmented and diverse population.
Waiting for sanely priced EV’s that don’t look like enlarged versions of children’s matchbox toys. Things will eventually shakeout and the vehicle market will once again be a welcoming place to shop.

I gave you a “thumb-up.” I’m very happy to ignore the static and drive my fully-loaded 2023 Bolt EUV with Super Cruise and Sun & Sound packages. I sure hope they find a way to make the 2.0T run great off 87 octane. Their other turbo engines now do and the price upgrade to 91 is close to a dollar around here.

And, you do know enough arithmetic to calculate that HYBRIDS are 300 times more likely to ignite than EVs, right? Don’t believe me? Look it up.
