Here’s When 2024 GMC Canyon Production Will Start

Carrying the refresh and overhaul introduced with the 2023 GMC Canyon into the next model year, the 2024 GMC Canyon is scheduled to have its order books opened, those orders begin to be processed by GM, and production to kick off within the next few months.

Now, GM Authority has exclusively learned when production of the 2024 GMC Canyon pickup will begin from sources familiar with the matter.

Start of regular production (SORP) for the 2024 GMC Canyon is currently slated for October 30th, 2023 according to GM Authority‘s information. The updated GMT 31XX-2 platform underpins the truck’s design, while the Canyon will roll off the assembly line at the GM Wentzville plant in Missouri.

GM Authority has further learned that dealerships will be able to start entering orders into the system during the week of August 24th. Following that, The General will begin processing retail orders approximately a month later during the week of September 28th.

The 2024 GMC Canyon also fits into Big Red’s strategy of developing its truck lineup’s off-road capabilities with a series of new sub-brand trim levels. GMC introduced the AT4 trim to its trio of pickup nameplates, including the Canyon, as a variant with boosted off-road features. The AT4X sub-brand brought even more cross-country, trail-conquering punch and styling to the Canyon and other brands.

Adventurous drivers will get a close look at the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition on July 6th when the model is set to be revealed by GM. We got a sneak peak at an AEV Edition mostly under a tarp, and were able to see a high-clearance bumper providing better approach and departure angles, 35-inch mud-terrain tires on black beadlock-capable Salta wheels, and a more than 3-inch suspension lift.

The 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition was developed in partnership with American Expedition Vehicles (AEV). Many of the vehicle’s specs will soon be revealed, but for now, we have at least confirmed that it features an upgraded suspension with long-travel Multimatic DSSV dampers, skid plates, and hydraulic bump stops.

Off-road driving benefits from abundant power, and the 2024 GMC Canyon AT4X AEV Edition is equipped with a suitably robust powertrain – the turbocharged 2.7L I4 L3B Turbo High-Output gasoline engine, which is rated at a maximum of 310 horsepower and 430 pound-feet of torque.

  1. so we’re just skipping building 2023’s altogether then?

    1. Did it say that? All it said was orders will start being taken in August, nothing about not building the 2023’s. Its possible if you get a 2023 order in late you may have to get a 2024. Orders are not build orders.

      1. If you finally get delivery on a 2023 when the 2024’s are being ordered, would the 2023 be considered a year old. That would really screw you on trade in for your next vehicle. What a rip off!

          1. Me too. March 31st. Order accepted but no factory allocation to build. Crazy system. I have been ordering new vehicles since the 1980s. Never heard of factory allocations before.

  2. These are already on the lots and roads. I’ve seen a few driving around Eastern Ontario and I’ve been to two different GM dealers and they had stock.

  3. How can you say that they are starting to take orders for 2024 Canyon, I ordered a 2023 Canyon Denali in November 2022 and still waiting for it on July 6th 2023 it is on Delay Mode Since it was manufactured back in Feb, no reason given Dealer doesn’t know why it is on Delay. That is not acceptable serial # 1GTP6FEK5P1135800

    1. Yours got hammered in the hail storm that went through the holding site just like mine did I assume. I ordered mine in January, and it sat and sat, and then we got an email here at the dealership noting that it and another one got hail damage.

    2. same here, the dealer I bought from can’t get an answer from GM brutal to say the least.

  6. I ordered on Feb 8th and it was manufactured first week of April. FINALLY delivered July 10 with supposed dead battery. Battery replaced but the truck is still lifeless. At this point it seems I would be an idiot to take delivery rather than waiting for a 2024 model? I will say it looks badass inside and out. Silver Denali.

  7. Ordered my Denali January 23rd. First day the order books opened to the public here in Ontario, Canada. Built March 13th. Still waiting. Dealership received a damaged vehicle report, likely the reported hail storm, but my VIN wasn’t in the damage report. Still waiting. Filed a complaint with GM Canada resulting in the following response. “Your vehicle is built and being held for quality control checks before shipping. Unfortunately we are experiencing delays to our shipping services.” Still waiting. August 25th rolls around I’ll have my dealership place an order for a 24′, and hope for better results. If it is just a shipping issue, someone needs to be liberated of their job title and free to pursue employment elsewhere. Moving vehicles isn’t something new.

  8. Put my order in for my 23 Denali 12/27/22. GMC still hasn’t picked up the order. Screw it, I’ll order a 24 from a different dealer that has a little more pull!

    1. I just spoke the the GMC dealer that I ordered by 2024 Denali. She said they will NOT finish production on the 2023’s and start the 2024’s but don’t know ETA.

  9. Ordered Canyon Denali on June 16. Dealer told me July 22nd that GM accepted the order. Not sure what that means. Said to expect it in late August. I doubt that happens but we shall see. Our dealer has received 2 so far and both sold immediately.

    1. I ordered mine March 31 2023, the dealer hasn’t even gotten an allocation to build yet. It’s a smaller dealership, so they are at the end of the pecking order.

  12. Will GMC have enough since to add 2 major things missing in the 23 model. No HomeLink garage door opener and no automatic rear window! 2 easy fixes to satisfy the growing fan base of this newly redesigned truck. My bet is that they will not do so, and it will business and usual during the 24 launch, back orders and slow deliveries to customers and dealers, same as we all experienced this year. I’m waiting to order my 24 Danali till I know they are rolling down the assembly line in Missouri and at least I have a glimmer of hope to get to drive it home one day!

  14. I’ve asked several dealers, as well as the GMC web site and no one knows . They can take your order , but have no idea when you will get your truck .Not a good way of doing business in my opinion.

  15. All 4 dealers in my 30 mile radius have no Canyon’s in stock, I know the strike had some affect but come one GM you can do better. I heard the CEO say she want slower production to jack up the prices. We I might be giving up on GM soon if things don’t improve. I hear the 2024 Tacoma is around the corner.

  16. Found a used 23 Denali with 1,429 miles at a local dealer, it’s being delivered on Monday , hope it wasn’t someone else’s nightmare with a lot of problems, but it’s got full warranty so we will see what happens. Started looking for used ones and lucked up after being so frustrated with the whole strike and slow 23 model production .

  18. I do not understand why nobody can give me a price on 2024 canyon. Yet the dealer keeps saying we will place your order as soon as we can. I ordered in May 23.

  19. I had ordered 2023 Canyon Denali during the summer. Then due to the strike I cancelled my 23 and ordered 2024. The dealer told me they are finishing up 2023 then start 2024 but did not know when production do 2024 will take place.

  20. Ordered a 23 Canyon Denali in May 2023. Was scheduled for assembly on Aug 21 pre-strike. Dealer thought it was shipping any day. Talked directly to GM on Nov 7 and plant is open but GM could not give me a new production date. At this point, I want a 2024 because of depreciation. GM said they would update me weekly. I hope so. In 45 years, I have not been through anything like this when ordering a vehicle.

    1. I can sympathize with you. I ordered in March of this year and the dealer has yet to get an allocation to build. I have been ordering for over 40 years and also have never been through anything like this. Doesn’t GM want to sell vehicles? Nutzy Fagan!

  21. I think I got that beat, I ordered a Canyon from a dealer on 12/23/22 and it still hasn’t been picked up by GM. I think unless you’re a large volumn dealer they don’t give you much priority on allocations!

  22. I have 2012 colorado with the v8. I would recommend GM bringing it back and the duramax. It would be a hot seller, the people that understand the old canyon/colorado with the 5.3, know that it is a nasty little truck and a ton of fun!
