The all-new 2024 Chevy Trax, the first model year of the Bow Tie’s second-generation subcompact crossover, appears to be a successful brand ambassador, with about 50 percent of recent purchasers of the model being first-time GM vehicle owners.
The 2024 Chevy Trax is selling strongly in the U.S. and enjoying similar success in South Korea, where it dominates its segment and is attracting an even higher proportion of new-to-GM buyers.
GM CEO Mary Barra said that GM delivered more than 20,000 units of the 2024 Chevy Trax during the second quarter, of which half or around 10,000 vehicles went to customers who are newcomers to GM ownership.
The 2024 Chevy Trax performed at an even higher level in the South Korean market. Its extreme popularity in that country has given it 50 percent segment share among compact crossover sales there, while two-thirds of South Korean Trax buyers during Q2 2023 are first-time GM customers.
Stateside, the Chevy Trax became the fastest-turning Chevrolet model in May and again in June. With the popular new second-generation Trax added to the mix GM delivered nearly 8,000 units during the month of May. This compares favorably to the 6,465 units sold through the entire three months of Q1 2023, when only the first-gen Trax was available.
As of early June, dealerships had 937 Trax units in inventory with an additional 7,500 crossovers in transit. Deliveries of the 2024 Chevy Trax and earlier Trax model years climbed even higher in June, reaching 10,000 vehicles according to information supplied to GM Authority by knowledgeable sources.
Chevy Trax sales in Q2 2023 jumped 114 percent year-over-year relative to the year-ago quarter. At the start of July, dealership lots held a total of 1,300 Trax crossovers, while GM had 13,000 more 2024 Chevy Trax units in shipment, suggesting even more robust sales for Q3 2023. The Q2 2023 average transaction price (ATP) of a new Chevy Trax registered at $24,487.
The 2024 Chevy Trax is an all-new configuration of the nameplate, larger than the first generation by 10 inches of length, two inches of width, and a wheelbase six inches longer than its predecessor’s.
Under the hood, it cradles the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine developing 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Output reaches the front wheels through the GM six-speed automatic transmission.
The 2024 Chevy Trax relies on the GM VSS-F vehicle set for structure. Pricing for the entry-level 1LS trim starts at $21,495, which includes the destination freight charge. The online configurator is currently live.
Production launched back in February 2023 at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea.

This is true – pre-Trax, I never considered any GM brands.
I understand its a free world, but if you never intend to own a GM vehicle , then why the interest in the site ?
As example , I likely will never own a Ford, Hyundai/ KIS, Honda , jeep etc. so I never visit sites that focus on those products.
Because now I own one (2024 Trax).
Tiff, welcome aboard enjoy your new purchase. Just curious what did you own before.
Enough said , we are getting a Trax at work , and anxiously awaiting for it to arrive !!
Learn to use common sense, Kirk. He now owns a GM vehicle which is why he’s now on this site.
I do , but so many people on these sites just seem to be here to bash GM products.
More than likely converts from Asian brands. I’m seeing alot here in Cali. They have to be selling well.
Some could well be previous Ford or Stellantis customers since neither offer a reasonably priced crossover any longer. Jeep Renegade starts at $30K, how absurd. Bronco Sport too.
The Trax is a lot of bang for the buck. However, the time from order to delivery is way too long. The best part is no CVT.
Doesn’t it come with a 3 cylinder engine? I can’t do that. I love the shape so much better than the last gen.
Definitely scared of a 1.2 3 Cylinder engine. As long as you’re gentle on it and change oil religiously to protect that turbo charger, you should be ok. Recently saw a Toyota mechanic explaining the tricks to protect your turbo. Mainly 2 things. CHANGE YOUR OIL every 3 to 4K miles and warm up your turbo before driving and allow 2 mins before shutting the engine off to avoid that oil to stay in the hot turbo and cook.
Wow.
This will only last until GM puts big incentives on the current Equinox. That’ll make it cheaper than the Trax, which won’t be discounted much (if at all right now). Surprised I have yet to see one. Live in a big tourist area with lots of rentals, so I guess these aren’t going to fleets.
This isn’t a surprise. The Trax is a good value for people looking to get a car with decent options for less than $25K. Auto manufacturers are bullsh***ing people into thinking that cheap EV’s are coming, but so far, EV’s have been coming in priced way higher than what was first announced. Anyone thinking that they will get an EV Equinox for $30K or an EV Blazer for $40K is just kidding themselves. So, it is nice to see an ICE vehicle that is reasonably priced.
At least GM did offer the Bolt at a very affordable price. The issue is they could not keep up with demand and now they will end production at the end of the year !
I’m seeing these marked up because of course. But I feel like the dealers marking this vehicle up are missing the entire point of why this is an attractive vehicle – THE PRICE POINT! It’s a nice looking car, sure, but you’re not going to convert a luxury car customer into one just because it’s an in-demand vehicle. It’s in demand because its a relatively nice vehicle at a very good price. You take the ‘very good price’ out of the equation and it becomes much less attractive of an offer. Just my 2 cents.
STEALERS can markup as much as they want as long as the buyer accepts the markups. If you order, you make sure they mark it as MSRP max. If not, walk away. Very simple. There will be other STEALERS trying to get that business and not mark them up.
I am not surprised about this, its as I expected. GM need to regain market share lost because of the mechanically problematic headache inducing vehicles it foisted on consumers in the late 70’s to 1980’s. Lost three generations of buyers, especially in the cities and suburbs on both coasts. GM’s new line of EVs and ICE vehicles can win a lot of them back, if they back up those vehicles with hassle free and positive GM service user experience. GM need to get at the young and young at heart with their new subcompact and compact crossovers.
Still no Trax or Envista’s at any dealers within 50 miles of me. Everything is supposedly in transit.
I put a deposit on a Chevy Trax LS2 more than a week ago. The dealer had 27 of them listed in inventory, but not one of them on the lot. They’re all in transit.
I have time at the end of my previous lease and so waiting for the car isn’t an issue, but the dealer seemed to have zero idea when any of these would be expected to arrive. They originally told me 8/12, but then said to “keep an eye on the website.” Over the last 8 days, the date has bounced around from 8/12 to 8/24 to 8/28 back to 8/24. I noticed a similar situation unfolding at all the other Chevy dealers in the area. Not one Trax on the lot but all the inventory “in transit.”
Unfortunately that’s all too true with working with GM or any auto manufacturer. Especially with a brand new vehicle. The vehicles hit the dealership’s inventory feed once the OEM marks them as in-transit, but then the OEM ‘s timeline estimates never seem to be accurate.
I own a 2024 Trax activ it’s nitro metallic yellow ..
I love it
At least GM did offer the Bolt at a very affordable price. The issue is they could not keep up with demand and now they will end production at the end of the year !
Production is now ending, because the BOLT will be updated. The best part are those LFP batteries. Being able to charge them at 100% without having to break your head about degradation of NCM batteries is a big plus.
