GM has released a new technical service bulletin to dealerships for select units of the 2020 Buick Encore subcompact crossover.
In the service bulletin, The General states that 2020 Encore units equipped with the turbocharged 1.4L I4 LUV gasoline engine may have a condition where the evaporative emissions purge valve does not fully close. If this condition were to occur, the engine has the potential to run rough, hesitate, or stall at idle speeds. In addition, the Malfunction Indicator Light – or Check Engine Light – could illuminate, which would indicate that a diagnostic trouble code was set.
To remedy this situation, certified GM technicians are to replace the evaporative emissions purge valve as necessary, while the repairs will be performed at no extra charge to the customer.
Notably, this technical service bulletin will be available for quite some time, as General Motors stated that affected vehicles will be covered for a period of 15 years or 150,000 miles – whichever comes first – from the date that the vehicles was originally placed into service. Additionally, this repair is tagged as bulletin number N232395300.
It’s worth noting that other GM vehicles equipped with the 1.4L I4 LUV engine, as well as the naturally aspirated 3.6L V6 LFY gasoline engine, may also be afflicted with this issue. With that in mind, the following vehicles are included in this technical service bulletin:
As a reminder, the 2020 Buick Encore was offered exclusively with a single powertrain configuration, which includes the aforementioned 1.4L I4 LUV engine, rated at 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque, and the GM six-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the Encore rode on the GM Gamma 2 platform, while production took place at the GM Bupyeong factory in Incheon, Korea.

We had the same problem with a 2020 Encore GX model that has the 1.3 liter engine. And the tech who worked on the car said his parents had the same problem with the 1.3 as well. Odd they only mentioned the 1.4 engine and the Encore standard model.
we have a 2018 buick encore with 1.4 turbo engine. It has only 43,000 miles and has idled rough and engine stalled twice in the last couple of weeks.. we received a letter saying the dealerships would install a new purge valve. In refurbishing the house we have lost the letter. What do we do/
