If you like the Chevy Silverado ZR2, but need something with a generous helping of custom aggression, then the folks at Flat Out Autos may have a solution. It’s called the KR2, and it takes the Silverado to all-new heights with a total vehicle conversion. Now, Flat Out Autos is teasing its new Chevy KR2 ahead of an official reveal at the upcoming SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
For those readers who may be drawing a blank, Flat Out Autos is the same custom builder responsible for creating the modern-day GMC Jimmy that GM Authority covered previously. Taking a brand-new GMC Sierra 1500 Single Cab / Long Bed, the folks at Flat Out chop the pickup to recreate the look of the classic K5 Chevy Blazer SUV, complete with all-modern underpinnings, creating something truly unique and ready for adoration by enthusiasts.
Now, Flat Out is expanding on its modern Jimmy conversion to create the new Chevy KR2. Taking a brand-new Chevy Silverado 1500 (or GMC Sierra 1500), the KR2 ups the ante with considerably wider fenders sourced from FiberwerX, both up front and in the rear, as well as a set of 37-inch tires and some long-travel off-road suspension from Dirt King. The rear is topped by a carbon fiber roof structure from Sankuer Composite Technologies.
Pop the roof off, and you’ll find what appears to be an exposed rear seating area protected by roll bars. There’s also a RIGd Supply rear tire carrier to complete the look.
With styling from the Silverado ZR2, Glacier Blue Metallic paint, and an interior space decked-out in eye-searing red leather interior, this custom Chevy is sure to get noticed no matter where it may go. The builders will even toss a supercharger under the hood to match the go with the show.
Look for the new Chevy KR2 to make its big debut later this year at the 2023 SEMA Show.

YES, YES, YES, Build it, and we will come! First off, a Regular Cab truck, is as rare as hens teeth! GM, look and listen, Both a Reg Cab short box, AND a 2door Blazer is what the public wants and would buy again. How sweet it would be, if we could enter the dealer and order like we used to. All these little suv’s, are killing us. Bring back CHOICE!
Why Chevy doesn’t build this is beyond me. With the success of the Bronco, a new K5 Blazer would be amazing. I think it’s a travesty Chevy made the Blazer into a CUV, sad.
I agree with both the above letters. I have had 5 different Blazers. Three full size (including a first year full production model in 1970) and two S-10’s. Loved them all. Even converted one S-10, with a LT1 and sold front axle. Now, if GM is watching, BUILD THIS!!!!!!!. Enough of this SUV krap. Besides, they all look alike. Giving the Blazer name to this new piece of krap, is discussing. Hurts the history of the brand. Anyone old enough to remember the firrst Blazer in 1969, will rember the splash it was when introduced. Bring the REAL trucks back. The public will buy them. We have had enough of this over priced junk.
If I could buy a new reg cab shortbox was that wasn’t a base no option work truck, I’d order it today. Even carpet is optional, how sad is that? They are making the body style, just add a few comfort options/engines already. SO frustrating (and yes you can add some options yourself but that gets very pricey and complicated on top of an already expensive truck while voiding the warranty). Still driving my 2007 reg cab shortbox loaded Sierra SLE and the guys that have newer ones (up to 2018) aren’t selling…
This should have been the new Blazer. It looks the part, and it looks like a lot of fun!
It would also be popular in an HD2500 diesel.
Thanks for the article, we are excited about bringing the KR2 to SEMA this year. We are also adding a Whipple Supercharger for a little extra power.
