With the introduction of the next-gen 2024 Chevy Trax, General Motors gave the subcompact crossover a complete exterior, interior, and powertrain overhaul. Now, with Q2 2023 sales figures released, the Chevy Trax posted an average transaction price (ATP) of just under $24,500.
To be precise, the ATP of the Chevy Trax over the course of the second quarter of the 2023 calendar year stood at $24,487. During this timeframe, there were 20,921 deliveries of the subcompact crossover, which is up more than 114 percent from Q2 2023 numbers. This gives the Bow Tie brand a 25 percent share of the small crossover segment, its largest since 2007.
Looking forward, General Motors expects further growth in Trax deliveries as more shipments continue to arrive on American shores.
As a reminder, The General expects a fairly even sales mix between the five trim levels of the all-new Trax. Notably, the Detroit-based automaker expects the 1RS to attract 24 percent of Trax buyers, while the Activ is expected to receive roughly 15 percent of the sales mix.
It’s worth noting that GM’s sales predictions of the Chevy Trax will have a large influence of the subcompact crossover’s availability due to the port consensus model. More specifically, General Motors will only produce however many models it thinks it needs, and will have dealerships choose from this supply to restock inventory. That said, dealers can now place regular orders for Trax units as well.
Under the hood, the all-new 2024 Chevy Trax is offered with a single powerplant option, which includes the turbocharged 1.2L I3 LIH gasoline engine, rated at 137 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque. Output is routed to the front wheels exclusively through the GM six-speed automatic transmission.
Under the skin, the 2024 Trax rides on the GM VSS-F vehicle set. Production kicked off back in February 2023 at the GM Changwon plant in South Korea. Pricing for the starting 1LS trim level will start at $21,495, which includes the destination freight charge. The online configurator is currently live.

Hmmm. So when GM/Chevy killed the Spark as the lowest priced vehicle you could buy from GM (new), they touted this Trax as the most affordable new Chevy. Yet according to this, the ATP was just under 25 grand. Now compare that to the ATP on the Spark of around 15 grand. That’s a TEN THOUSAND DOLLAR difference!!!
And before anyone jumps on this saying the Spark and Trax are not in the same category, I know that. Let me repeat. I know that. What I’m pointing out is GM’s own words about the Trax being the least expensive while replacing the Spark as the least expensive.
Tell the people who can’t afford anything over 20 grand that need a reliable vehicle too bad. Go to Hyundai or Kia or Mitsubishi. That’s exactly what GM did.
What the hell is GM thinking dropping all the models they don’t make much/any profit on. Time to go back to the old days of being unprofitable while making a model for everyone.
Now why is it that you feel every driver should be entitled to a new car? There are plenty of used options to fit their budgets while being very reliable.
The Trax has a very high residual value which means it expected to hold its value very well. As far as the price its one of the lowest MSRPs in the market for a CUV. If you go to a Hyundia/Kia dealer you will be introduced to
prices over MSRP.
The Trax is a winner priced very low, nicely optioned, and its easy on the eye.
The biggest problem with the Trax is going to be supply,

How do you know the new Trax has a high residual value?

You do understand who ultimately sets RV don’t you? In this case it would be GM. Manufacturers manipulate these things all the time. Toyota and Honda have been the biggest culprits of this for decades.

You read my mind, you knew exactly where I was going with this. So GM can make up any number it wishes to suit its bottom line whether accurate or not, or based on any supporting data, how many used 2024 trax have been sold so far? Interesting, oh by the way my dating profile says I’m a handsome millionaire over 6 feet tall. 🙂 And everyone knows it’s true because I said it was.
