The 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 arrives as the fourth model year of the fourth-generation nameplate, introducing a few changes and updates over the refreshed 2022 Silverado. One such change is that 2023 Silverado Duramax models will be equipped with the new 3.0L I6 LZ0 engine turbodiesel “baby Duramax,” replacing the 3.0L I6 LM2.
The big news for 2023 is the introduction of the even more off-road capable first-ever 2023 Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 Bison.
For 2024, the Chevy Silverado 2.7L engine will be called TurboMax. Also, the 2024 Silverado ZR2 will offer the LZ0 Duramax diesel engine to provide more low-end torque while off-roading, joining the naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine for available powerplants.
This month GM Authority uncovered pricing details for the 2024 Chevy Silverado 1500. Compared to the previous model year, WT trims are now $500 more expensive, High Country trims are now $600 more expensive, and ZR2 and ZR2 Bison prices are down $1,600. The price drop for ZR2 and ZR2 Bison models is due to the fact that the the 3.0L I6 LZ0 turbodiesel Duramax engine is now fitted as standard, whereas the more-expensive naturally aspirated 6.2L V8 L87 gasoline engine was the exclusive powertrain offered, which is now optional.
The online configurator tool is live for the 2023 Silverado. It is still live for the refreshed 2022 Silverado.
Production of the 2024 Silverado will kick off this month on July 17th.

lol really pushing that 2.7 for the past 6 months
Let’s break down your comment shall we?
“People don’t want a gas guzzling, overly complicated and less reliable 4 banger engine in a truck?”
Gas guzzling? It is their most efficient gas engine. Complicated? Have you see the diesel engines and their emissions set up? Reliable? It has had nearly zero issues since its release nearly five years ago and was rated as one of their hardest engines to kill in testing by the engineers and testing teams. The thing is over built. Have you done any homework on this engine or are you just one of those guys that buy a truck because you think it makes your image tougher and spouts V8 for life as a window sticker?
“GM can enjoy losing big $$$ on their stupid idea to develop the 2.7 Turbo instead of a naturally aspirated straight six which can make nearly as much power, have decent torque and get 20% better fuel economy.”
Losing money, so far it has been selling well, is in the performance Cadillac versions, in the midsize trucks as a sole option selling over 100k (eventually as it just came out). It is tee’d up to go in other vehicles as well as its development is spawning other smaller engines which further reduces its cost. This thing has far and away not lost money for GM but has done and will continue to make it loads of money and reflect on the balance sheet and sales.
As much as I love NA, that doesn’t have a future much longer and is a less superior engine. A turbo 4 will easily out perform an NA straight or V6. So you are so concerned about your engine you will take less HP and far less torque as you point out just to have an NA straight 6? An over built turbo four which this is will last just as long as a straight 6 or longer. It will do better on city mpg and most likely worse on highway mpg (the turbo 4) but in the end will have the same mpg overall.
Seriously, just do some homework next time before spouting off. You are speaking for yourself and maybe a handful of people, most don’t mind and the sales and reviews tell otherwise. I will gladly take a turbo 4 with these numbers over an NA straight or V6, I want boat loads of torque in my truck and that is what this engine provides in spades.
Well done GM, it will be interesting to see what this engine spawns in the others. A rumored 2.5 in the full size CUV’s should be a gem. We had a rental highlander with the turbo 4 non hybrid, it drove well. Good mpg, plenty of power down low and across the power band, It wasn’t slow but it wasn’t fast, exactly what a family CUV needs to do. I am sure the 2.5 from GM will handily out do it in both HP and TQ.
If you buy one, I would plan on keeping it for a long time because it would probably be hard to sell given the apparent difficulty in selling them new. However, if it works for you and you keep your vehicles 10 years like I do, with the rebates it’s a pretty good deal. The real let down with it is the fuel mileage, it’s insignificantly better than the v-8 so you are probably better off with the v-8, for resale ability.
