Cadillac Racing efforts were split between two race tracks on July 9th, 2023, competing in the IMSA events at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park (formerly Mosport) with the No. 01 V-Series.R and the No. 31 V-Series.R, while the No. 2 V-Series.R took on the course at Monza.
The No. 2 Cadillac V-Series.R, driven by Alex Lynn, Earl Bamber and Richard Westbrook, started out strong, starting fifth in the Hypercar class. When Westbrook took control, he guided the No. 2 Caddy to the lead thanks to a series of pit stops cycles, but before he could check out and set the pace, he was called back into the pits for emergency refueling. The race car returned to the racing surface, but had to pit again just two laps later for full fuel and energy, putting the team in 10th.
Lynn, who drove the first stint, said, “The start was pretty chaotic, but we got through unscathed and had a good start. And then we were battling it out with the Peugeots, the Ferraris, the Porsches and the car was performing well. It hasn’t swung our way, but we’ll pick up points where we can.”
Meanwhile, the No. 01 Cadillac was on track to post a decent result at Mosport, but suffered a dramatic crash in the latter part of the race. Renger van der Zande, in control at the time of the wreck, was able to walk away from the impact under his own power, after the crash that saw the No. 01 V-Series.R fly across a sand trap and collide with a tire barrier due to light contact with a competitor. The team, comprised of van der Zande and Sebastien Bourdais, ultimately finished ninth.
The No. 31 Cadillac Racing team of Pipo Derani and Alexander Sims quietly finished seventh overall, as the V-Series.R machine just didn’t have a ton of speed all day.

At Monza, the Peugeots finally came alive. For Cadillac in WEC, they need two cars and absolutely have to find pace. They are in there like spectators without a chance at victory barring a miracle.
