Two GM vehicles from the upcoming Barbie movie, including a pink Corvette with unusual features, have been released as free cars to all players of the Forza Horizon 5 video game by Playground Games per a recent Instagram post.
The two vehicles are Barbie’s 1956 Chevy Corvette C1 and Ken’s GMC Hummer EV Pickup, both inspired by vehicles shown in the film that is scheduled to premiere in U.S. cinemas on July 21st.
The 1956 Corvette driven by Barbie appears likely to have considerable screen time in the film, and is a special “Barbie Movie” trim with no exact equivalent in reality. While it uses 1956 Corvette aesthetics, the car is an EV in the game rather than that sporting the original Vette’s naturally aspirated 4.3L V8 gasoline engine.
The Barbie Movie Corvette is also a four-seater, unlike the original two-seat sports car configuration. In-game electric motor upgrades enable players to pile on the power, with some motor choices developing as much as 600 horsepower (though these come with significant weight gains as well).
The custom pink EV Chevy Corvette is clearly meant to be the most interesting and unique addition to the game with its upgrade of a 1950s sports car into an Ultium-powered juggernaut. The 2022 GMC Hummer EV Pickup that is Ken’s ride in the movie is very similar to the GMC Hummer EV Pickup already available in-game.
The Barbie Film Hummer EV Pickup features a default silver paint job in-game with pastel violet lightning decals.
The two new vehicles are available free to all Forza Horizon 5 players between the June 26th launch date of the promotion and its end after August 14th. In order to obtain the vehicles, all that is required is to log into the game, bring up the Message Center through the pause menu, click on the Gifts tab, and click on each of the two “Gift Cars” listed at the top of the Gift list to start the download of each.
Each new car will download, and the player can then navigate to their “Car Collection.” The Car Collection pane will show the message “You’ve collected 2 more cars!” and images of the two Barbie vehicles, marked “New.” The cars will then be available for use in-game through the “Choose Car” interface.
In addition to the two new in-game cars, Playground Games also has a contest to win unspecified Barbie swag. Players of Forza Horizon 5 can enter the contest by posting a Barbie-based photo or livery from the game on social media with the hashtag #FH5BarbieMovie. Contest entries must be posted on or before July 14th.
